Toya Delazy to open for Adam Lambert

Attention Glamberts! The star is heading to SA in just over three weeks time and if you’re wondering who is opening for him, well then you’ve come to the right place. SA star Toya Delazy will support Adam Lambert  as part of his first tour to the country.
I like Toya’s energy and she’s a great performer. Her vocals could be better on stage, but she always gives it her best shot. I think she’ll be a great opener for Adam. I’m expecting lots of energy and even more fun on the tour, so this should be good. Full details below:

Big Concerts confirmed today that Toya Delazy will be supporting Adam Lambert when he performs live in South Africa on the 13th of November 2012 at the Grand Arena, Grand West Cape Town and the 16th of November 2012 at the Coca- Cola Dome, Johannesburg. The tour is presented by 94.5 KFM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and M-Net.

Hailing from Kwa-Zulu Natal, Toya’s musical career started with classical piano at age nine and developed into her enrolling in the Jazz program at Howard College UKZN in 2009. After being discovered by Sony Music she released her debut album ‘Due Drop’ in April 2012. Her first single ‘Pump It On’ was playlisted on 94.7 Highveld Stereo followed by her second single ‘Love Is In The Air’ which charted at number one on the Kia Take 40 SA chart on both Highveld and 94.5 KFM. Adam Lambert to tour SA in November

Earlier this year I had the privilege of chatting to Adam Lambert. The star was doing promo for his new album, Trespassing. Now obviously he has a lot of fans in South Africa, so naturally one of my questions to the former American Idol star was when could we expect him in South Africa. Well the update on that question is…. in November!!

The star will be heading out for a couple of shows in just two months time. This will be his first visit and tour to SA. He’ll be in Cape Town on the 13th of November at the Grand West Casino and he’ll follow that up with a gig at the

Terrence Jenkins joins E! News

Ryan Seacrest…. Out, Terrence Jenkins… in. Seacrest has stepped down from his co-hosting duties on E! News. The entertainment mogul will be focusing on producing more great programming through his production company and on hosting American Idol. I also read something not so long ago about him starting his own network, but there is no further info on that at this point. So with Seacrest’s departure comes some new talent and energy in the form of presenter and actor Terence Jenkins.

Jenkins or Terrence J as he has been referred to has been hosting BET’s “106 & Park” video countdown for the last few years. He now moves to E to join Giuliana Rancic as the new host on E! News. The changes come into affect as of the 12th of November. He and Giuliana will host the show during the week, while Jason Kennedy and Catt Sandler hold down the weekend duties. In a statement on E! Online, he said, “I’ve always had a passion for the wide spectrum of pop culture that E! News covers so well; I can’t wait to get started. I’ve had a great career so far, and it¹s all been building toward this. And then getting to work with great people like Giuliana and the entire E! News team just makes this seem like an even more perfect opportunity.”

It’s sad to see Seacrest go, but we haven’t heard the last of him and I think Terrence will do a sterling job. BTW, I’ve already sent in my interview request ;)

Mariah set to earn $18million on Idol

From one diva to another: Mariah Carey is the new American Idol judge. The 42-year-old was confirmed as the new judge following the departures of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler earlier this month. The diva is said to have scored herself a whopping $18million for her duties on the judging panel. How shit for her? Haha.

On the news Mimi said, “I am so excited to be joining ‘Idol. I can’t wait to get started in the fall and I will see you in January.”

No word on who the third judge will be as yet, but now that word is out about Mariah you can expect the speculation to start on the third judge.

Now when Jennifer “JLo” Lopez joined the judging panel two seasons ago I was a bit weary and truth be told I wasn’t sold. Needless to say she grew on me to a point that she actually landed up being my favourite judge. She was fierce, firm but also very constructive and I think this helped the contestants immensely. Will Mariah follow in JLo’s footsteps? Well that we’re going to have to wait until January for. Warning though. EXPECT A LOT OF MARIAH SONGS IN THE AUDITION PHASE… Obviously many hopefuls will try and wow the star with their versions of her songs, but it’s going to get ugly. Just you wait and see ;)

So in the spirit of Mariah joining American Idol, I thought why not include one of her biggest tracks… We Belong Together, her song for Randy and Ryan? Haha

American Idol interviews

Last week the new American Idol was crowned. If you’ve been hiding under a rock, the winner is Phillip Phillips, the guy who most people thought would win. While I dig him and I think he will be a great recording artist in the years to come, I was secretly hoping for a Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez finale, but alas that wasn’t meant to be. I’m sure both will get record deals and will be just as successful, if not more so, than Phillips. We’ll have to wait and see.

So on Thursday I participated in a conference call with Phillips and Sanchez. It’s hard to try and get your questions asked, especially when you’re competing with the likes of Us Weekly, People Magazine, AP, Reuters, the LA Times and the New York Post to mention a few, but practice makes perfect. I’ve put together snippets from the 30 minute-long chats each. Have a listen below:

Phillip Phillips wins American Idol

Phillip Phillips is the new American Idol. He was announced as the winner during the two hour live finale from the Nokia Theatre in down town Los Angeles.

The star-studded live performance had the audience up on their feet on more than one occasion. Rihanna performed her latest single Where Have You Been on the stage. This is the latest single off her new album Talk That Talk, which is such a lekker track.

Jennifer “JLo” Lopez also performed tonight. She will be hitting the road soon to promote and perform tracks from her LOVE album, as well as many other songs from her long, illustrious and very successful career. This has been a good season for JLO. She was named the most beautiful and the most powerful celebrity in the world. Steven Tyler has been a little subdued this year but that doesn’t mean his stage presence is gone. His performance alongside the rest of his Aerosmith band mates was rocking, as to be expected.

Also on the stage tonight, Jordin Sparks (who has had a really good week), the legendary Neil Diamond and Reba McEntire, Fantasia Barrino and  CCR’s John Fogerty. A great performance that is a must is the one between Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holliday. The two performed “And I Am Telling You” and oh my word was it good. The soulful and the petit divas show off their amazing vocal abilities and that performance scored them a standing ovation. AMAZING!!!

The top 12 guys performed a medley of Bee Gees songs as part of a tribute to the late Robin Gibb, who died at the weekend. They performed tracks like To Love Somebody and How Deep Is Your Love. It’s nice to see that the Idol bosses jumped on this. The news broke too close to the live broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards, so there wasn’t a musical tribute. So well done to the AI bosses.

Two other highlights to watch out for:

- The Phonebook song as performed by this year’s contestants. This was to honour Randy’s statement, “Dude you can sing the phonebook”. It was classic, loved it.

- The wedding proposal. Season 5 finalists Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young were caleld to the stage by host Ryan Seacrest. Little did we know, it was because Young was about to propose to his Idols sweetheart. Naturally she said yes. Very cute this was.

This is the performance in my opinion that won it for Phillip. It’s his debut single Home:

It’s very Mumford & Sons- ish… Love it, especially the marching band vibe too!
