If there’s one thing we can be certain about it’s that change will happen whether we like it or not. This time of the year is when loads of radio personalities go into contract negotiations with their employers and potential employers. The result of these negotiations is often heard in the first week of April. As an aspiring radio personality myself, I feel for these professionals.
So with that in mind, here is the first of, no doubt, many changes to come. The Twins, Hlelo and Ntando Masina will be leaving youth station, YFM at the end of March. Read the official release below:
Johannesburg, Monday 04 February 2013 – YFM announced today that, after 5 years on air, YFM twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina, will be leaving the station at the end of March 2013.
“Line-up changes are common practice in the radio industry, particularly with a youth station like YFM. After careful consideration of all aspects of our on air offering, we have decided to make the necessary changes to YFM’s Programming, and unfortunately the Twins will no longer be with us from the 1st of April 2013” said Programming Manager Tumelo Diaho Monaheng “In as much as we are totally committed to the development of young talent – like the Twins, we are also continually looking for new ways to enhance our station with new and exciting personalities”.
Hlelo and Ntando are a success story YFM has single handedly created. The girls have done an exceptional job during their time at the station, and have carved a credible space for themselves not just in radio, but also in the South African entertainment industry. YFM appreciate their hard work and commitment, their great rapport with the listeners, and their support of the YFM brand.
‘With growth and evolution being critical in the ever changing market, the brand changes each year to cater for our listeners’ added Diaho Monaheng.
Hlelo and Ntando Masina said this morning “We have had an amazing journey at YFM which has taken our brand to another level over the past few years. YFM have given us fabulous opportunities, and they are more like family to us. With that being said, we have quite a few new and exciting ventures lined up, and we are about to embark on that new journey”.
“It has been great working with the Twins, they have been valued members of the YFM team, and we wish them all the best with all their future plans” concluded Diaho Monaheng.
Full details of the new programming lineup will be announced on April 01st.
I wonder what these new and exciting ventures include… Will they carry on with their reality show? Are they moving to another station? I’m going to have to do some digging 😉 Best of luck to them.
