Next week we celebrate our Freedom in SA and what better way than to rock out to Metallica. The band are heading back to SA for a series of shows. It’s going to be a massive, epic, rocking tour and the news just gets better… well for Van Coke Kartel, Chromium and Pestroy at least. VCK will open for Metallica in Cape Town, while Chromium and Pestroy will have the duties of warming things up in Jozi. Full press release below:

Big Concerts and MK announced today that the support bands have been confirmed for Metallica. Van Coke Kartel will open at both Cape Town dates on the 24th and 25th April at the Bellville Velodrome. Then in Johannesburg, local heavyweights Chromium and Pestroy will support on the 27th April at FNB Stadium. Run through MK, the Metallica opening band selection gave South African fans their hand in nominating their favourite artists for the task.

Francois van Coke and Wynand Myburgh formed Van Coke Kartel in 2007 after their other band, Fokofpolisiekar, went on hiatus. Guitarist Jedd Kossew and drummer Jason Oosthuizen joined in 2010. The winner of two SAMA Awards; this new four-piece set-up catapulting Van Coke Kartel’s live performances into another dimension.

Pestroy have been performing around South Africa for over 15 years and have been on numerous national tours, played headline slots at major festivals around the country and have performed alongside the likes of In Flames and Rise Against.  They were voted No 9 in the most loved S.A band of all time survey held by TUKSFM.

With many chart topping hits on rock format radio stations, CHROMIUM’s sound is extremely recognizable as being their own. CHROMIUM was even chosen by the Roadrunner Records A&R team to feature on the major label’s website which showcases talent from all over the globe. They have released three albums and 10 music videos and have toured to Europe.

Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo collectively known as Metallica, are one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. Metallica have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
