Last night I was invited to attend the launch of the new summer campaign by leading alcohol brand, Hunters. The event was held at Melrose Arch Piazza, in which a whole bunch of local celebs showed up to be apart of the launch. So there we were, sipping away on our Hunters, getting all “requenched” and Beating The Thirst, when I spotted someone who didn’t quite fit in.
Look it’s not that he didn’t fit in, he just looked a little out of place – among our celebs/ personalities. I took one look and I said to my friend I’m sure he’s a rapper from the USA. She wasn’t particularly phased by this, but because I’m in the industry that I am, she entertained the idea. Thanks to the power of Google, I searched for the person I thought it was, clicked on images and I was almost certain it was him. I then went on to Twitter and there was no mention of him being in SA. So I thought rather than creating something out of nothing, I’d quietly let it go… Until I heard a murmur across from me saying he was here.
I tweeted the following:
And as soon as I did that he released this:
Apparently he wasn’t here for the Hunters event. He just happened to be at the restaurant that was hosting the event. We thought about asking for a photo and then we got over that idea when his security turned down another patron’s request for a photo. What is interesting though is how the Hunters marketing manager found a gap and took it. Who knows what she was saying to him, but he moved from where I took this ridiculous selfie, back to the restaurant area where it looked like he was enjoying a Hunters or two. Ten points for the Marketing manager!
What is Hunters doing for their new campaign? Well they’ve just released new branding, which really looks good. They’re having a series of DJ battles across the country and this kicked off with a battle of the big (little) boys from 5FM, DJ Warras and Roger Goode, who battled it out in the piazza last night. Good fun, good jol… Instant requenchment 🙂 Follow them on social for all the latest from the battles:
