He is one of the ‘quietest’ stars in entertainment, except when it comes to his business aka music. It’s there that he really makes a noise… A good noise. So much so, his skills have captured the attention of many industry players and music lovers alike. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, maybe when I say the name Black Coffee the light bulbs will go off. Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, is easily one of the most sought-after DJ’s in music, and I’m talking about the local stages. I’m talking big ass international festival stages like Coachella, clubs in Ibiza, most of Europe and beyond. DJ Black Coffee is winning at life… He’s also winning awards.
The star is out in Los Angeles this weekend, as part of the 2016 BET Awards. It was there that he was named as the Best International Act: Africa category yesterday, beating out the likes of AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Diamond Platinumz and Nigeria’s Wizkid.
In today’s edition of the Sunday Times, my good friend Gabi Mbele got to chat to the star about his win, and his plans to move to LA in the next year. When you’ve got friends like P Diddy, Swizz Beatz and you’re working on new music with Grammy winner, Alicia Keys, it’s clear why he has plans to hop across the ocean to the City of Angels. Big up Black Coffee, we’re super proud of your achievement, and I also applaud you for being one of the nicest, most humble and far from arrogant stars in the game. Global recognition, world domination!
