Christina Aguilera releases “Change”, dedicates it to Orlando victims

In light of the horrific mass shooting in Orlando, Florida last week, celebrities, policians and humans alike, have rallied together to show their support for those lost and to those they leave behind. The Voice star, Christina Aguilera today released her new song called Change, which she has dedicated to the victims of the Orlando shooting last week. Here’s here personal message:

Personal message from Christina:

“The horrific tragedy that occurred in Orlando continues to weigh heavily on my mind. I am sending so much love and so many prayers to the victims and their families. Like so many, I want to help be part of the change this world needs to make it a beautiful inclusive place where humanity can love each other freely and passionately.

We live in a time of diversity, in a time of endless possibilities, in a time where expression of oneself is something to be celebrated.  And I am left wondering how people filled with so much love could be taken by so much hate.

Though there is such heavy sadness I believe that there is much more love in the world than we know.  We need to learn to love again, we need to learn that one person does make a difference; we need to keep love in our hearts. As Nelson Mandela once said, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

Listen to Change below:

Christina Aguilera, RCA Records, Flo Reutter, Fancy Hagood, Big Machine Music and BMG Platinum Songs US are proudly donating 100% of their proceeds* from each U.S. download sale of the single “Change” on iTunes from June 17 to September 14 to the National Compassion Fund, to benefit the victims and families affected by the Pulse shooting in Orlando. The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah on Orlando shootings

The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah had some pretty harsh, but true statements to make recently when talking about the tragic Orlando shootings. 49 people were gunned down in a club in the early hours of Sunday, by a man claiming his allegiance to ISIS. There are several other claims that the man himself was gay, but nothing has been proven as yet. One thing is for sure, the level of hate (religious, sexual and/or issues related to race) prevalent in the world is beyond scary.

So while Americans come to terms with what is being coined as the worst mass shooting in its history, there’s clearly a lot of work that needs to be done in that country when it comes to gun control. One thing is for sure, the level of hate (religious, sexual and/or issues related to race) prevalent in the world is beyond scary. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones left behind as a result of yet another senseless act of terror.

Thanks for the #Lemonade Beyoncé

LemonadeIt’s a Sunday morning in Johannesburg. It’s supposedly Autumn, but if I look outside we’re in for another scorcher of a day. I need something refreshing to fuel me along for a marathon of nothingness – and by that I mean a lazy day, as Sundays should be spent. Something that tickles my fancy is something delicious and fresh. Something like #Lemonade. And boy have I found a delicious blend.

One of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry right now (and for the last twenty years or so) is the formidable Beyoncé Knowles. The star continues to break boundaries and borders with her craft, highlighting just how powerful brand Beyoncé
is and how fearless she is in her attempt to be the best she can possibly be. It’s remarkable, it’s genius. It’s also very rare. Maybe the reason why we’re subjected to a lot of the mediocre crap for so many months of any given year between her albums is because she wants to us to realise that she will break the mundane spell with something oh so special.

So by now you’re wondering what the link between my desire for lemonade and Beyoncé is. Well if you’re just waking up, the one word that is and will be trending all day is #Lemonade. That’s because Beyoncé just dropped her visual album with that title. The film, of which she was the executive producer, aired on HBO a few hours ago and after that, and as to be expected, the star dropped her new album. It’s currently streaming on Tidal, which I and no doubt thousands of others have now signed up to.

Let’s talk about production. Or do we even have to? This woman’s attention to detail is incredible. The storylines of the videos are powerful, and the way in which she has married story with production is amazing. From narration to grading, cinematography to editing, these videos are visual artpieces. Sign up and watch it now.

I haven’t listened enough to delve deeply into the themes throughout the album, but one major theme is infidelity. Did he cheat on her? And by he, I could be referring to Jay Z, to Matthew Knowles or to any other man or woman who has ever strayed. Beyoncé doesn’t explicitly say who she is referring to, so this could all be conceptual. I mean look at what it’s doing just on this post alone – we’re talking about it and therefore drawing attention to the album.

You see Beyoncé Knowles is no fluffy pop star. She is a powerful, extremely self-assured, talented (some may even go as far as to say gifted) and intelligent woman. She may have sold millions and millions of albums to date, traveled far and wide, done a lot more than most will ever get to, but she like you and me is human. A super human, but human nonetheless. I may not be able to resonate with many of the themes throughout this album and I may not be considered her target market. I can however listen to the music and draw a lot more from this chapter in her musical life, and in doing so draw my own conclusions, connections and the like from there. I said this on Twitter earlier. The music is that much better when it stands for something and that something is uplifting, empowering, socially relevant. That’s #Lemonade.

When Beyoncé is ready to share parts of her private life with the world, she does so in her own way, her own time. You know why? Because she can. She answers to nobody. She answers to Beyoncé and if Beyoncé says yes, then best you be prepared because the powerhouse has a plan and it’s bigger than the last one. In 2011, Beyoncé released an album called 4. It was the first time the star had broken away from her father, and decided to take control of her career and own affairs. It was probably one of the most nervewrecking periods of the star’s already successful career, but she knew the time was right and she knew she could. And then she did. And then she never looked back. And ain’t that one beautiful, amazing story?

In that moment where you know and believe that you can, half of the battle is won. The rest is up to you to make it the most lucrative decision for you, be it financially, spiritually, emotionally, physically. That documentary is saved on my PVR and it serves as a constant reminder that I cannot settle for a mundane existance. I too have a story, dreams and goals that I want to share. They may not be on the same grandiose scale as Beyoncé, but they’re there and they exists. In both my and your life, we will work with some powerful brands, but the only one that truly matters is yours. Don’t ever let it take second best. Once you realise the power and purpose of your brand, you will never look back. You will continue in your efforts to build it up, creatively innovate, be unique and offer the best you can to those around you. Make it matter, be relevant, be conscious and aware of what matters and once your find that, pour yourself some freshly made Lemonade and toast to your damn self!

Bow down to Bruno Mars, Beyonce and Coldplay

Every year we look forward to a few events, functions, award ceremonies, albums and performances. This coming weekend music’s big night happens, E! Entertainment is throwing a launch event in South Africa on Thursday and Valentine’s Day is around the corner too. But one event we were never ready for (well sorta) was this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. UK rockers Coldplay headlined the show, but they brought their pals Bruno Mars and Beyonce on just to funk it up a little more.

Now we all know Beyonce dropped her brand new single and video, Formation at the weekend. Not only does the song bring the queen back to her rightful place, but it also sends an incredibly powerful political message, and all through her creative craft and genius. This woman is unstoppable. So naturally she dropped the single just before her appearance at the Halftime Show… Hype it up baby, go! And boy oh boy did she deliver – and so did Bruno! Watch this, you’ll know what I mean.

Here’s a bit more from the incredible Coldplay too:

This is how Lady Gaga does the American national anthem… and nails it. Scroll to 2:20 or so 🙂

Give the gift of #ShowMax this December

BreakingBad

Last year I was one of the ‘lucky’ souls who worked right through. I had Christmas and New Years off, but besides that there was work to be done. I thought it be best because I was training for 70.3 Half Iron Man in East London. The less I was distracted, the better it would be. It’s a quiet time of the year and lets be honest, hardly anyone is online. So I decided to make the most of it, and I opted to watch a show I’d procrastinated on for a long time. That show? The Walking Dead.

I’m not a zombie fan at all, but having met and interviewed Danai Gurira twice, and not much else to watch on TV, I gave in and started watching. In ten days, I’d completed all four seasons and caught up on season five. It really is that good! I loved it, but you know what I loved more? The fact that I could watch all the episodes in my time – no ads, no interruptions, just my schedule. Box sets are the future and I’m big on watching this way.

So that’s why I have a soft spot for ShowMax. The video on demand service has all the seasons of shows I’ve wanted to watch for ages, but just haven’t had the time or chance to. It clearly works for me and because I’ll be housesitting for family members, who had a fast and uncapped line, I’ll be able to watch what I want and when I want to. ON the agenda:

Breaking Bad

Finish off Suits

The Late Late Show with James Corden

I’ve also been told to watch Jeckyll And Hyde. Anyone seen that?

A few of you might be asking how the service works:

The album is expected to drop on the 4th of December and it’s called A Head Full of Dreams. This will be their 7th album, and hopefully not their last The first single is Adventure Of A Lifetime, which you can listen to below:

Guess who they’re working with? Well besides being produced by Norwegian duo Stargate and RikSimpson, we can expect collaborations with Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton. FAMAZING. They’re apparently keen to hit the road again and hopefully that means SA once again.
