Temping

On Monday I had a day off. My friend Matthew still hasn’t got a job, so we decided to head on down to the Aspen Temporary work Agency at 09h30. He filled out the form, and I thought well I have days off so let me just join too. The women told us that we could work at 12pm, so obviously we obliged. What was the job? Working on the slopes, in preparation for the World Cup happening this weekend.. I went home and got kitted out in the warmest clothing I have, cause that’s what she told us to do. I then met Matthew back at the agency at 12, and the woman told us there was a slight change in plan.. we were heading over to a mansion under construction {ALARM BELLS} We got there and this dumb idiot American dude ordered us around like we were criminals. Not cool. What did we do? There was this conveyor belt bringing dirt up from the ground floor, which would stop and wait to be emptied into a wheel barrow. Well that pain I’ve had in back for the last coupla months, is now completely sore. But ya, whatever. I hated the work, and I’m not afraid to admit that I’m just not strong enough… hey I clearly didn’t miss my calling to be a construction worker. $40 wouldn’t make me go back.

And yesterday was another day at Short Sport… stiff arms and all. Fun and games, we had pizza again from New Yoork Pizza.. $3.50 a pop, but the pieces are huge! And we can’t keep our eyes open later than 9, so bed it was. But hey it gets dark at 4pm! oh ya we watched the premier of Daisy Does America– the brain child of Courtney Cox (Friends) and hubbie David Arquette… real funny, it’s like Ruby Wax only more suttle. Anyway that’s my news for now. Hope you’re all well in Sunny SA. Oh one more thing… Some of you may be going to see Robbie, while I may get to see Seal live on the 28th… who knows maybe he’ll bring Ms Klum along, so watch out for photos!

First Jol in Aspen

Last night was the first of I’m sure of many nights out in Aspen. We did a bit of predrinking with some of the Ozzies we met at their place. All except one of them were under 21, so it was rather mellow… until they started loving the Rum. These guys from Joburg came around too, what beauts!! You know “I’m not cool in SA, so let me try and be so in America”. Not that’s too harsh, but they just weren’t my cuppa tea.

So we decided to head on out after that. First stop- Eric’s Bar. Not as dodgy as it sounds. Actually quite the contrary! pretencious people, who flash $100 bills around.. The bouncer at the doors says, and I quote “Can I like to see your ID?” Yip good old SAfa he is, nice guy. Then inside these two wannabe WWF Wrestlers arrived wearing Leopard print loin cloth, in like temperatures of -10C. Silly stoopid South African girls were attracted to them, shame how special are they?

The vibe wasn’t great so we went to McStorlies Pub- a place said to be inhabited by all the foreigners, naturally it’s Irish. Really cool place, almost sort of Rat feeling. One Budweiser $3… vodka lime and water? They don’t have a clue, they call it something like Ruby vodka??? all in all good times, no wild fun… but like I said it’s the first jol in Aspen! Later

Day? I dunno I forgot…

It’s weird being nine hours behind ‘normal’ time, still finding it difficult to sleep later than 4am. Oh well. So to update everyone, the four of us stayed in Glenwood Springs- a two hour bus trip from Aspen. We stayed in this really cool youth hostel, played in the snow… blah blah blah. We had a great breakfast there the next morning, as per dripping with oil so ya. Met this guy who pretty much gave us the low down on Aspen, what to do, where to go etc… so then we headed off on the bus.

When we got to Aspen the newspaper headline read something along the lines of “Rush on accommodation sets many back”. I swear there is nothing in Aspen, nothing. We checked newspapers, phoned and asked many locals if we could use their barns. It even went as far as to splitting the group up, and everyone fending for themselves. Not keen. there were many options from dodgy Brazilians… oops, no but really the guy put a deposit down, was living happily in a town where the demand for accommodation exceeds the supply, and was prepared to give it up… the catch? To pay the rent to him…mmmm!!!

Everyone staying at St Maritz was in the same situation, we moved out yesterday into another place. And luckily the owned loves South Africans. So from going from ten days accommodation to the entire season is amazing. He went as far as to say that he will give us a discounted rate, and will make it up elsewhere, so relief. I just really feel sorry for the rest of Rhodes, jokes… but apparently there are about 14 people arriving in the next three days. All I can say is good luck or one word- VAIL!

Other than that started work. quite cool. Americans are really friendly but also really wealthy. Wow. Still trying to find a place where I can put my photos onto a DAMN computer, but that requires effort. NOt in the mood. GAP jeans- $23. Anyone want?I’ll give you my bank details, Jokes. But that’s crazy. Please tell people you may see to check out my blog, a lot easier to communicate this way, rather than email k. I hope you’re all well.

G- when you going overseas?
Jen and Nic- Plett, how was it?
Russ- are you there?
Carly- You’re Jewish, why so quiet??? HUH punk
Pete- good to hear from you
Anyone else… yo

Ok gotta go, free time at the library for internet is almost over. Stay tuned for scenes from my next installment…

Oh ya I missed the new stoopid episode of LOST. Oh well. Ok bye

HELLLOOOO

Good evening from the United States of America!! Wierd, but awesome. I’m typing this email in front of a window, as I watch the snow fall in Glenwood Springs, roughly about an hour away from Aspen… as soon as I figure out how to post pictures you’ll get to see them.

The flight to Atlanta was so long, wow wee!! Nice airport.. then onward to Denver, even better airport. It’s so easy to see why Americans become porkers, something I should watch out for too, cause there is a vast amount of fast food chains, EVERYWHERE!!. Well it’s 20:30, been travelling for over 28 hours and now I’m officially exhausted so I’m off to bed.

STAY TUNED for More USA updates.. Jaars
