Verdict on #TheVoiceSA

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 7.58.15 AMSo M-Net’s new format reality TV show kicked off earlier. It’s the local version of the hugely popular franchise, The Voice South Africa. It has been a bit of a rough two weeks for the pay TV channel, so they needed something like this, and boy did it deliver.

The Voice SA is hosted by a veteran in the industry, Lungile Radu. Radu is no stranger to the industry. Not only is his reality TV show, Forever Young back on Vuzu, he’s an acclaimed actor and he’s hosted hit shows on Channel O and Mzansi Magic. Now he adds this show to his resume. Granted we’ve only seen one episode, but from what I saw, he’s comfortable, confident and has assumed his position perfectly. Behind the scenes, 947 radio personality Stacey Norman is the V-Reporter. I’m not sure of this bit yet, but maybe as the rounds progress, it will become more obvious.

One of the most important elements of the show has to be the list of coaches and if you missed it, Bobby Van Jaarsveld, Lira, Karen Zoid and Kahn Morbee of The Parlotones, are all on the panel. Initially I had my reservations, just because I’m unfamiliar two of them, and a third doesn’t strike me as someone well placed for such, but I’ve got to give it to the producers because they’ve done well. Karen is entertaining, as is Bobby. I just love Lira. She’s dramatic, intelligent, theatrical, warm. Just the best… I do think Kahn will warm as we get into the season more.

As for the talent? Well… Well… Well! There’s plenty on offer and we’re definitely going to see some incredible singers surface in The Voice South Africa.

Meet the coaches for The Voice SA

So The Voice SA is trending on Twitter right now, and it doesn’t seem like everyone is completely sold on the choice of coaches. In a country like ours, where racial representation is always a sensitive topic, the question being raised on social media is why are there three white coaches and only one black coach? It’s a conversation I’m prepared to have, if you are. My personal view is that two of the coaches could’ve been replaced with other names. I think either Loyiso or Zwai Bala would’ve been great. I think Tamara Dey would’ve brought something fun to the show. Who will do you think could’ve been on the panel? And who do you think has what it takes to host the show? I know a name a lot of you are expecting to hear, and SHE has a big announcement happening soon. Could it B her?

One of the names of the coaches for the local version of the hit show, The Voice has been announced – and it’s none other than the incredible Lira! She’s the first star taking up a seat on the Big Red Chair. This is fantastic news… Someone with such credibility, talent and soul is perfect for this competition. If you’re one of the hopefuls entering this competition, you definitely will want to pick Lira… I would 😉
