Are you The Ultimate Braai Master?

Do you consider yourself to be an awesome braai-er? Have you got a dream of showing the rest of the nation how it is done? Well here’s your chance. SABC 3, Pick n Pay and Cooked in Africa films are looking for you.

The Ultimate Braai Master television show is the brainchild of Justin Bonello, who is famous for his bush cooking and culinary delights around the continent in the form of a few very successful TV shows. This show is will launch later this year and it will roll out as a 13-part reality TV show. Bonello will select fifteen teams that will consist of a Braai Master and a Braai Buddy. Those teams together with Bonello will be visiting 13 different locations, in a 52-day adventure. The winner stands a chance of pocketing R500 000, a car and of course the title of the “Ultimate Braai Master”.

Sounds great right? Well it will be, but it wont be a walk in the park as Bonello says. “To earn The Ultimate Braai Master title, teams will have to sign up for a 52 day road trip, during which time they’ll be expected to occasionally catch their own food, source their ingredients under the toughest conditions, and cook to a standard of culinary excellence that will thrill our judges and raise the bar on the kinds of meals that can be produced on an open fire.”

Keen. Well you need to:

–   Be a food lover who is slightly above average in the cooking department.

–   Be 18 years and older

–   Have a valid driver’s license.

You need to enter online at www.ultimatebraaimaster.com by no later than Monday, 27 April.

This is something I would love to enter; unfortunately my culinary skills are all that great. So you needn’t worry about me 😉 Enter now good people!

Braaiday – (Rebecca Black “Friday” Parody)

Rebecca Black’s track has never sounded better! This is genius, brilliant. Well done to the guys who produced this and just ahead of National Braai (Heritage Day) on the 24th of September, is but smart. Awesome.

There is clearly a lot going on tonight and tomorrow in celebration of Heritage (Braai) Day tomorrow. Like the above poster… Looks like loads of fun. Springbreak always is though! As South Africans, we also like to braai and in celebration of this very South African occasion, the organisers of Braai Day have a song for you to pump around the braai tomorrow. Download it here. Let’s remember though what the day is actually about. From the Government’s website:
“The day is one of our newly created public holidays and its significance rests in recognising aspects of South African culture which are both tangible and difficult to pin down: creative expression, our historical inheritance, language, the food we eat as well as the land in which we live.

“Within a broader social and political context, the day’s events…are a powerful agent for promulgating a South African identity, fostering reconciliation and promoting the notion that variety is a national asset as opposed to igniting conflict.

“Heritage has defined as “that which we inherit: the sum total of wild life and scenic parks, sites of scientific or historical importance, national monuments, historic buildings, works of art, literature and music, oral traditions and museum collections together with their documentation.” Continue reading “Heritage (Braai) Day”
