Elvis Blue to open for Bon Jovi

Idols season 7 winner, Elvis Blue continues with his winning ways. In addition to his SAMA nominations, the star has now been given one awesome opportunity. He’ll be opening up for the highly acclaimed, Bon Jovi as part of their Because We Can tour to the country in May. Very nice. Check out the full press release below:

March 26, 2013 – Big Concerts confirmed today that recent 2013 SAMA nominee Elvis Blue will be the opening artist for Bon Jovi’s South African tour dates.

Elvis Blue’s journey started when he was a young boy, singing in school choirs, and busking on the streets of Johannesburg and Scotland. After a stint overseas as a street musician, Elvis returned to South Africa where he decided to study contemporary music. While living in George he met the friend whose name he would adopt in 2008.  “My wife works at an organisation that is a hospice and children’s home and I met this little boy there when I used to go and play my guitar for them. Accident at Linkin Park, CT: Statements from Linkin Park, Big Concerts

This is awful news to wake up to. Apparently an adverting billboard collapsed at the Cape Town leg of the Linkin Park tour to SA. The incident injured several and unfortunately one fan died as a result of her injuries 😦 Below are statements from both Linkin Park and Big Concerts:

“Following a performance tonight at Cape Town Stadium, we were advised that several people were injured as a result of the collapse of an advertising tower erected by Lucozade in the parking area outside the venue.

We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries.

Though we have had no relationship with the sponsor or the entity responsible for erecting the structure, we take the safety of our fans very seriously and our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy. ” Linkin Park.

“Following the regrettable incident at Cape Town Stadium this evening,  Big Concerts would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the injured persons and in particular the family of the fan who tragically passed away from injuries sustained when an advertising tower collapsed outside the stadium from gusting gale force winds. We would like to thank the City of Cape Town, the South African Police Services, and all the medics, doctors, and disaster risk personnel for their swift and professional response to this accident.”

Bon Jovi heading to SA

 

International acts, they keep on coming. Big Concerts announced this morning that rockers, Bon Jovi will be heading to South Africa next year as part of their “Because we can” world tour. The band will be playing two concerts in May 2013. Cape Town, you’re up first on Tuesday the 7th at the Cape Town Stadium. This is followed by a performance at the FNB Stadium on the 11th of May.

The Eagles are coming

The countdown to this year’s first big stadium concert it on! The legendary rockers, The Eagles will be heading to SA this April and this tour will mark their first time to the country in the band’s 40-year long career. Here is the official release on the band’s tour:

It’s Kings of Leon weekend in Jozi

American rockers Kings of Leon are in South Africa! The band kicked off their first tour to the country at the Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town earlier this week. Now they’re heading up to the Highveld to perform in Jozi. They’ll be playing at the FNB Stadium in the City of Gold tomorrow night. Now according to the accreditation agreement, I’d only be allowed to film thirty seconds of the third song. That’s all. So instead of lugging around all that equipment, I’m rather going to focus my energy on taking some pretty cool pictures. I can’t wait.

From what I’ve heard, the concert in Cape Town was amazing. The sound was good, the energy of the band on stage was electric and the Capetonians were overall impressed. I feel the rest of us will be loving it just as much when they take to the stage at Soccer City. In the video above you can hear them talking about their first tour to SA and how this happens to be one of their biggest gigs to date. BOOM! South Africa, you represent you beautiful thing you 😉

Coldplay Public Transport Details for Jozi

Going to Coldplay next weekend? Not wanting to take your cars? Here are some alternatives:

Coldplay will be performing live in South Africa during October 2011. The tour, brought to you by 94.5 KFM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and M-Net, is scheduled for Cape Town Stadium (on the 5th October 2011) and FNB Stadium (on the 8th October 2011). Tickets for the two concerts are still available through Computicket

Big Concerts, the promoters of the Coldplay stadium shows, scheduled for Saturday 8th October at FNB Stadium, are anticipating capacity crowds and have therefore urged fans to use public transport to get to and from the concert.

The public transport plan for this specific event is based on the successful Soccer World Cup plan, in which extra event-related public transport supplements the usual public transport system. In particular, various rail and bus park-and-ride facilities will be available on the day of the event.

With all these options, and the fact that various roads around the stadium will be closed for the match, fans are urged to make use of the public transport options offered on the day.

The various security checks in place at the stadium often take time and it is best to try and get to the stadium early to avoid disappointment. Gates for the show will be open from 16:00, and the concert will kick-off from 19:00.

The following public transport options are in place for fans travelling to and from the concert:

Park and Ride:

Tickets are R90.00 per ticket (return) from any one of the four Park n Ride locations – Constitution Hill, The Coca-Cola Dome, WITS University (West Campus) and Gold Reef City. Tickets can be bought from Computicket. Visit www.computicket.com and search for ‘Coldplay Parking and Transport’.

Newsflash: Extra standing tickets for Kings of Leon in Jozi

Thursday 15th September – Due to popular demand Big Concerts has announced that additional general admission standing tickets have been released for the Kings of Leon Johannesburg concert only on 29th October at the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium. Tickets can be purchased through Computicket.

Demand for Kings of Leon tickets has been exceptional and the concert is one of the most anticipated events of the year.  Earlier this week Die Heuwels Fantasties, Shadowclub and the Black Hotels were confirmed as the support artists.

Kings of Leon will be performing for the first time in South Africa headlining two huge stadium shows at Cape Town Stadium (on the 26th October 2011) and the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium (on the 29th October 2011).  Tickets for the two concerts are available through Computicket. They’re on their way to South Africa this October and I cannot wait. I think Coldplay is going to blow South African audiences away when they perform in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively. One such song we’re bound to hear is their new single “Every Teadrop is a Waterfall”. I brought you the news when the single dropped a few weeks back, now I bring you the music video. I like the time lapse effect in the video. Probably not such a good thing for people who suffer from epilepsy, but it’s a great video none the less. What do y’all reckon?

The Parlotones set to open for Coldplay

This shoudn’t come as too much of a surprise to you, but if you haven’t already heard the news, SA band The Parlotones will be the opening act for Coldplay when Chris Martin and the boys hit the stage later this year. Read the official press release below:
