I didn’t do too badly in my predictions… Sorta 😉 Check out my predictions here. Congratulations to all the winners and a special shout out to a few of my favourite people in the industry, Ms Jeannie D, Khaya, Melinda and Lira! Big up to Queen B, Bonang Matheba… another award under her belt… Her #WinningWays continue.
The SA Sports Awards took place the Sandton Convention Centre on Sunday. I was on the red carpet interviewing some of the biggest names in the game and while I waited for my chance, I snapped a few pics of the stars in attendance. Check out the gallery below and check back in for video interviews coming this week.
The annual SA Sports Awards takes place this weekend at the Sandton Convention Centre. These awards will pay tribute and honour our sportsmen and women who have done exceptionally well at the Olympics, swum like them fishes in the pool, scored many a try or a goal on the rugby or soccer fields and hit the opposition for fours and sixes on the cricket pitch.
One of the categories you can get involved in is the South African Sports Star of the Year award. All you need to do is vote for your favourite finalist. You will not only make them a winner, but quite possibly you too! A BMW 1 Series is up for grabs. Good, now that I have your attention, here are those details.
Simply SMS “SPORTS” followed by the Athlete’s corresponding letter (A-G) to 33617.
Our golden boys, Cameron van der Burgh and Chad Le Clos are expected to arrive back in SA on Thursday morning. Their arrival time is 07:30 and while that might be early for most, seeing as though it’s a public holiday, their performances in London for the Olympic Games definitely warrants it. I know a lot of women will be there to welcome them back, but guys, lets show our support too yeah?
Here’s the media alert I’ve just received. Hope to see you there:
Att: All Press
South Africa’s Olympic swimmers are returning from London this Thursday, 09 August 2012. Let’s give our golden boys, Cameron van der Burgh and Chad Le Clos a heroes welcome. Please be at OR Tambo International Airport international arrivals hall at 7.30am. Join LEAD SA, the Department of Sport and Recreation, SASCOC and Swimming South Africa as we celebrate our Olympians. LEAD SA- celebrating success!
There will also be a press conference with Cameron van der Burgh, Chad Le Clos, Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula and the President of Swimming SA Jace Naidoo, shortly after their arrival.
First Cameron, then Chad and now rowers Sizwe Ndlovu, Matthew Brittain, John Smith, James Thompson. The awesome foursome clenched the gold medal during today’s lightweight men’s four event. So this is day five and already we have three medals, and gold at that. HOW RAD!!! May they continue to flow in for our waterbabies and hopefully on the athletics track too! Well done TEAM SA.
Another night… another gold for South Africa. This time it came from 20-year old Chad Le Clos. Chad pulled off a magical win in last night’s 200m Butterfly final, beating out race favourite Michael Phelps by 0.05 of a second. Crazy man!
So proud and happy for him. The commentators for the race seemed to focus more of their attention on they fact that this was a disappointment for Phelps, who had lost out to Le Clos by a simple fault on his behalf. It pissed me off, but hey… bottom line is Chad won. Fair and square and the gold is his. Phelps handled it well and as the most successful Olympian ever (15 golds and a total of 19 medals), it shows how much of a good sport he is. He tweeted, “Can’t express enough about the amazing swim the @LeClos_Swim had tonight in the 200fly!! Well done kid!!!”
