Christina Aguilera releases “Change”, dedicates it to Orlando victims

In light of the horrific mass shooting in Orlando, Florida last week, celebrities, policians and humans alike, have rallied together to show their support for those lost and to those they leave behind. The Voice star, Christina Aguilera today released her new song called Change, which she has dedicated to the victims of the Orlando shooting last week. Here’s here personal message:

Personal message from Christina:

“The horrific tragedy that occurred in Orlando continues to weigh heavily on my mind. I am sending so much love and so many prayers to the victims and their families. Like so many, I want to help be part of the change this world needs to make it a beautiful inclusive place where humanity can love each other freely and passionately.

We live in a time of diversity, in a time of endless possibilities, in a time where expression of oneself is something to be celebrated.  And I am left wondering how people filled with so much love could be taken by so much hate.

Though there is such heavy sadness I believe that there is much more love in the world than we know.  We need to learn to love again, we need to learn that one person does make a difference; we need to keep love in our hearts. As Nelson Mandela once said, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

Christina Aguilera, RCA Records, Flo Reutter, Fancy Hagood, Big Machine Music and BMG Platinum Songs US are proudly donating 100% of their proceeds* from each U.S. download sale of the single “Change” on iTunes from June 17 to September 14 to the National Compassion Fund, to benefit the victims and families affected by the Pulse shooting in Orlando. Christina aint coming on over anymore

Ah man, I was really looking forward to seeing the pocket rocket that is Christina Aguilera live in concert next month. Alas, the star has withdrawn from the South African of the Year 2015 because of a ‘schedule change’ on the hit show, The Voice… Let’s put the focus on our local stars. It is the South African of the Year Awards after all 😉 Press release below:

Christina Aguilera regretfully withdraws from South African of the Year (SATY 2015) Awards show

Grammy Award winner and TV star Christina Aguilera has regretfully had to pull out of the 2nd Annual South African of the Year (SATY) Awards show. Aguilera has had to withdraw due to a change in scheduling of top-rated TV show “The Voice”on which she is one of the judges. The schedule change requires her to be in the United States on the day of the Awards show.

Aguilera expressed her disappointment at having to cancel, in a message to organisers, and says she hopes to be able to perform in South Africa soon.

Due to the change in line-up organisers will be refunding ticket fees to all ticket holders and the show, which was initially opened to the public, will become a private event as it was last year with the crème of South African society invited to attend the gala event.

The SATY organisers would like to apologise to all ticket-holders for the inconvenience.  Ticketpro are already contacting ticketholders to arrange for the refund of their ticket fees.  Anyone who has not heard from Ticketpro should call their call centre to ensure prompt refunding takes place.

Editor-in-Chief for ANN7 and SATY 2015 organiser, Moegsien Williams, says ANN7 is deeply disappointed that it will not be able to bring Aguilera to South Africa as planned but that the company understands she has contractual obligations that she must meet.

The organisers are currently engaging with various artist management companies to try to secure another international artist and are also looking to engage further local artists.

Williams said: “Aguilera obviously was a big drawcard but top international performer Jason Derulo as well as our superstar line-up of South African artists will still be on stage on the night of the awards.

“It will be a live broadcast on ANN7 (channel 405) which means the South African public will still be able to enjoy and be part of this year’s SATY awards by voting for the nominees in the various categories.”

The South African performers include ChianoSky, Mafikizolo, AKA, and The Soil.

The SATY 2015 Awards will take place at the Ticketpro Dome (formerly known as the Coca-Cola Dome) in Northgate onOctober 17. Hosted by ANN7, the Awards both celebrate and honour prominent and unheralded South Africans excelling in various fields.

ANN7 would like to encourage South Africans to continue to support their favourite nominees by voting in the run up to the Awards. Awards range from business, sport, entertainment, civil society, entrepreneurship and politics as well as ordinary South Africans making a difference in the country. The main category is the South African of the Year Award, which is currently held by the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.

In the run up to SATY 2015, ANN7 is screening the show, “I am South African”, which airs Monday to Saturday at 6pm. With 83 episodes commissioned, it celebrates South Africa’s leading artists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, politicians and athletes. It is hosted by model, TV presenter and actor, Masego “Maps” Maponyane, and can be seen on ANN7.

All those nominated in each category are voted for by the public. For more information visit www.ann7.com/saty, follow @SATY_AWARDS on Twitter (#SATY2015) or visit the SATY Awards Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/SATY-Awards/1491415451148867.

Idols Top 8 song choices

Tonight’s Idols Top 8 spectacular should be absolutely awesome. The Idols stars will be singing songs from some of the biggest films in Hollywood. They will be mentored by South African-born film composer Trevor Jones, so you know this is going to be good. Here are the song’s you’ll be seeing later tonight on M-Net and Mzansi Magic:

BRENDEN LEDWABA  [@brenden_praise] – Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work”, from the 1988 John Hughes romantic comedy She’s Having A Baby, starring Kevin Bacon.

JVB: I’m not familiar with this song, so I don’t have any expectations really. I just know he’ll do it well 😉

BUNNY MAJAJA [@BunnyMajaja] – Seal hit “Kiss From a Rose” from the Batman Forever movie soundtrack in 1995.

JVB: She keeps choosing well and this is one of my favourite songs of all times! Cannot wait to see this one.

CHRISTINA WILLIAMS [@_c_williams] – Adele’s big Oscar-winning ballad from last year’s James Bond adventure, Skyfall.

JVB: Big, big song… Bold choice. Lets see how she handles this one.
CRYSTALENE NAIR (24) from Durban [@CrystaleneNair] – Whitney Houston hit “Waiting To Exhale”, from the groundbreaking romantic drama of the same name directed by Forest Whitaker.
JVB: Another big song by one of the biggest voices we’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying! I’ve always been nervous for people who choose Beyonce, Whitney and Mariah, but I’ll keep an open mind.
INNOCENT MABUSHE [@innocentmabushe] – Phil Collins hit “Two Hearts”, from the soundtrack of the 1988 British true life crime comedy Buster, starring Collins himself in the lead role.

JVB: Fun song choice. I expect a great performance, over and above the vocals.
MUSA SUKWENE[@musathevoice] – Brian McKnight ballad “Win” from the 2000 biographical flick “Men of Honor”, starring Cuba Gooding Jnr and Robert De Niro.

JVB: I’m becoming a fan of Musa. He has a great energy and his singing comes naturally, so I have high hopes for him with this song choice.
SONKE MAZIBUKO [@sonke_mazibuko] “Go The Distance” from the 1997 animated comedy “Hercules”, which was covered for the movie soundtrack by Michael Bolton and by Ricky Martin for the Spanish version.

JVB: Wasn’t the cheese done two weeks ago? Haha. This should be interesting…

ZOË ZANA [@zoe_zana] “Lady Marmalade” cover by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Mýa and Lil’Kim from the 2001 Baz Luhrmann movie Moulin Rouge!

JVB: Nice, playful song. I think it suits Zoe’s personality perfectly. I’m just a bit worried about all the different ranges she’s going to dealing with because this song was all about who had the bigger pipes, longer higher notes and the battle of the divas in my opinion. I look forward to seeing her interpretation.

I’ll be catching up on these performances after the Rihanna concert 😉

[Video] Pitbull – Feel This Moment ft Christina Aguilera

This man knows how to make good, catchy pop music. Pitbull’s latest offering, Feel This Moment features one of the most underrated artists of our time… Ms. Christina Aguilera. This post is about their song together, but friends go and check out Christina’s Lotus if you haven’t already. It’s packed with singles, powerful lyrics and even bigger Aguilera pipes. One of my favourite albums from 2012 that I believe didn’t get as much love as it deserved.

Justin Timberlake has revealed his album cover for The 20/20 Experience and it’s looking great. I must admit, when I first saw it, it reminded me a little bit of Christina Aguilera’s Bionic album cover from 2010. Just a little bit of randomness for you on this Thursday morning.

The hype, the build up to this release is just awesome and I really think it’s going to be an incredible offering (if you’re a JT fan that is). He also revealed the track listing for the album:

4. Stawberry Bubblegum

Catch Justin performing at the Grammys this coming Sunday/ Monday morning and diarise these dates 18/19th of March for the release of The 20/ 20 Experience.

Christina Aguilera releases album cover for ‘Lotus’

The first single, Your Body, is climbing the charts at a rapid pace. It’s a great song, even if a few guys ‘were harmed’ during the making of the video 😉 Now the awesome Christina Aguilera is getting ready to release her brand new album, Lotus soon. The album is due for release on the 12th of November. More on this to come.

Idols Top 8 Review

So last night the Idols Top 8 tackled the R&B theme. I missed the show, but I’m catching up on all the action via the official site. Here’s what I thought of last night’s performances (in no particular order):

Erin- I said last week I was a bit worried about her taking on Beyonce‘s ‘Halo’. Watching her perform it, I was pleasantly surprised. I think she did a nice version of the track. Much better than I expected.

Mark– Eish! Not so sure about this one. It’s safe but dare I say it was a little boring.

Kelly- Great performance. I think that could save her because her vocal wasn’t the best. I think she’s great though so I hope she’ll get to perform again. Just one observation, her accent is quite apparent when she sings. Anyone else noticed that?

Freddie- Freddie the free spirit took on the late Amy Winehouse‘s ‘Rehab‘. You can see he tried channeling his inner Amy (yes we all have one) but I don’t think he pulled it off as well as I’d hoped he would.

Dene- She chooses so well. For this show she tackled Christina Aguilera‘s ‘The Voice Within‘. She did a great job at this song! She amazes me. So young and yet so powerful! Great work!

Dave- Who knew a rocker could do Marvin Gaye‘s ‘Sexual Healing‘ so well? WOW!!! That was amazeballs!

Crushanda- She sang Whitney’s ‘Learned From The Best’. Clearly she did. How are those pipes? Girl can hit the right notes… right up top there. Nice!

Lefa- He took on one of my favourite artists of all time, Mr John Legend and a song that cemented him as a top player in the music biz (No Ordinary People). He did it well, like I expected.

So who should be in the bottom three this week. It’s tough. If I could pick a bottom four I’d go with Freddie, Mark, Kelly and Erin… It’s based on votes though, so let’s see how it goes!

Idols Top 8 song choices

Sadly Phaksy from Durban was the contestant who got booted off the Idols stage last night. He took on R&B star Loyiso Bala’s I Want You, which is such a pity. He clearly likes the genre and with Loyiso being the guest judge for this week’s show, Phaksy has just missed out. Alas, that’s the way of cookie crumbles. This week’s theme is of course R&B and here is what the contestants will be singing:

Crushanda Forbes: Whitney Houston’s “I Learned From The Best

Good song choice. If anyone can pull it off, it’ll be Crushanda. She should be owning the stage this week. Let’s see.

Dave van Vuuren: the Marvin Gaye classic, “Sexual Healing

With his very emotional stage presence, this one could get interesting. He’s pushing the boundaries with this song and it almost seems a little out of his vocal range. I’m interested to see what he does with this one.

Dené Vorster: “Voice Within” from Christina Aguilera

The judges have told Dene in previous weeks that she sings the song in question well, but she lacks the emotional maturity to really get it. I think she’ll offer a good vocal on this one and I think she might surprise us all with how she interprets the track.

Erin Fourie: Beyoncé’s “Halo”

Oy vey, that’s all I’m going to say!

Freddie Van’Dango: “Rehab”, by the late Amy Winehouse

Perfect song choice for Freddie! Let’s see how he channels his inner late Amy Winehouse.

Kelly Fortuin: Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You”

She’ll do this well I feel. She keeps surprising us.

Mark Haze: “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars

This one is a crowd pleaser and so I think he’ll get lots of votes. Having said that, and I stand to be corrected but Lloyd did this song last. It’s old, a bit stale. It’s a safe song choice.

Lefa Pike: John Legend’s “Ordinary People”

BOOM! I have big expectations for Lefa this week. I love me some John Legend and if he brings out his emotional, softer side, he will win many a vote in this round. Picture Lefa sitting on a chair, nothing other than him, Johan Laas on the piano a good vocal. Let’s hope he does it well!
