One of my favourite albums of 2014 dropped at the tail end of the year. It’s the next edition in a long list of successful releases from one of SA’s most praised DJs, Euphonik and it’s called For The Love Of House Vol. 6. I can’t get enough. He knows what works on the dance floor and beyond and if you’re into house music, you definitely need to get your hands on a copy of this album.
A track off the album that has garnered a lot of attention on the charts is the one below. It’s called Love High and it features the vocals of Mpumi. Loves it:
Once Euphonik’s well deserved vacation is done, I’m hoping to get him on my show on CliffCentral.com. Stay tuned for those details and if you want to follow him on the social networks, here you go:
Have a vision board, or take a nice big piece of paper and write down your plans for the year. I did that on the advice of my friends and I’m happy to say I ticked off all but two of the things I wanted to. One is slightly delayed and may become a reality at the end of Jan, let’s see. The other is a work in progress and that will resume in 2015.
Empower yourself. If you feel like you aren’t learning, growing or being challenged enough, do something to change that situation. I enrolled to do a nutrition course through the Sports Science Institute of South Africa and it opened me up to a whole new way of thinking and also in terms of my next career path. In addition to the nutrition course I enrolled to do a German course. While I’m not fluent, I am on my way to conversing and hopefully come this time next year things will be quite different when it comes to my international language skills. I haven’t had enough studying though. There will be more and if it helps my earning potential, my job satisfaction and the like, I’m all in 🙂
I’ve learned that in order to do the things you love, you need to DO THE THINGS YOU LOVE. It sounds obvious, but how many of you are actually following through? Take a second to think about that and then make a plan of action and DO IT! I work with some amazing people at Cliff Central and at Futurelife and I’m honoured to be associated to such powerful brands. I turned thirty this year, a massive milestone and it’s strange to say, but I love it, despite what many may say. I decided to let go of a lot of crap, keep those nearest and dearest close and to let the rest go. I love New York City, as I’m sure many of you know by now. So I decided to go there for my birthday. It was everything and more and my relationship with that city is very much alive. It will happen, I know it will!
Do something to help someone or something. I ran the Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon for the Put Foot Foundation and in doing so, I raised over R12,000.00 for them. I then participated in my second 947 Cycle Challenge and this was done in aid of the amazing Smile Foundation. R20,000.00 is what I raised for them and I couldn’t be more proud to be associated with these two organisations. Their work is incredible and if I can do my bit to change the lives of some of our youngSTARS in SA, I’ll climb Everest or ride and run many more races to do so 🙂
What I look forward to in 2015:
More traveling – and blogging, vlogging to accompany it
If you missed the latest episode of The Buzz on CliffCentral.com with myself and Jennifer Su, take a listen to the podcast to hear what you missed. Jen and I caught up with Jonathan from Eye Couture to find out what hot trends you should look out for this Spring/ Summer. We also chatted to Nicolas and team from Cirque Eloize… This guys is talented to say the least. He can juggle knives, fireballs and a total of seven (maybe 8, stretched to 9) balls in one go. The show looks amazing too. We also chatted to Johnny Ray about Rockville 2069. Have a listen below and don’t forget to tune in every Tuesday between 11 and 12pm.
Every Tuesday between 11 and 12noon, I get to hang out with some of the entertainment industry’s fun personalities. Bonang Matheba and Metro FM have officially parted ways. It was short, it trended but now The Front Row is no more… Well on Metro FM that is. The news broke just a few hours after Matheba began her presenting gig on SuperSport, as part of the channel’s World Cup coverage. Here is B*’s official statement:
BONANG MATHEBA LEAVES METRO FM
The SABC and Bonang Matheba have decided to end their relationship after the broadcaster’s refusal to allow Ms Matheba to continue a World Cup Lifestyle show on SuperSport.
The broadcaster claims that NO talent on any SABC platform is allowed to be on any other broadcasters across ANY mediums. Ms Matheba and her management could not agree to these terms as it does not align with Matheba’s future business plans.
“Metro FM is a fine station and it is a pity that my journey with them has been so short. I am an independent freelancer and have been working peacefully with all broadcasters over the years. My future potential cannot be jeopardised by accepting terms that will not grow my career. I could not agree to the SABC’s blanket terms – in restricting me to work with other broadcasters even though my contract with them was on radio. Thank you to the team at Metro FM for a wonderful time thus far. Onward and upward!”
Matheba can be seen every weekend on SuperSport at 13:00 for the duration of the World Cup. She is also on Clash of the Choir every Sunday at 17:30 on Mzansi Magic.
Despite the statement, social networks are abuzz with speculation that she was fired. I doubt that was the case, but rather as Matheba says a difference in opinion and therefore the only possible outcome for both parties was to end their agreement. Maybe Metro FM will have a different take on how this all went down, but for me the SABC is being extremely narrow-minded here. For one there is no consistency in this argument. I wont mention their names in fear of them facing the same outcome, but I know of at least three DJs/ hosts from two radio stations who have TV gigs on the pay TV front. So how is Matheba’s latest gig a problem? Also, she’s been with Top Billing for over a year now and Clash of the Choirs is into its second season. Now all of a sudden the SuperSport gig is an issue? Hmmm. Also, Metro FM is available on the audio bouquet. If it’s such a massive issue for their talent to be on the ‘other side’, why is their audio on the ‘other side’? Bring on your statement SABC/ Metro FM. I’m intrigued.
Matheba is one of the biggest media personalities in this country. I’m very surprised they’re just letting her go. Maybe she can come join myself, Jen Su and Gareth Cliff at CliffCentral. #JustSaying 😉 … I’m going to try get her on my show to discuss this further. Lets see what happens.
Gareth’s gone… we get that. So 5FM management clearly had to think long and hard about who would take over the popular breakfast slot. Well they’ve done their thinking and the replacement is? SURPRISE… DJ Fresh. Fresh is no stranger to morning radio, so I have no doubt in my mind that he will be a fantastic mornings host. His show starts at 5am according to a tweet from 5 earlier. He’ll be doing the 5-8am slot.
Earlier this week I told you that DJ Warras (of YFM fame) will be taking over the evenings slot, leaving Roger Goode with a one way ticket to the afternoon drive slot. This is an interesting move for me and clearly for many others too. Roger is fun, playful… Perfect for the evenings. As an afternoon host? Well I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. You can still be fun, don’t get me wrong. I’m just not completely sold at this stage. We’ll see come the 5th of May.
So they’re changing the slots around a bit. Who takes over the either 8-11/ 8-12 slot? Are they trying to hook the audience from early and then keep the listeners there, so as to break the reign of Queen B across the hallway at Metro? If they hook the audience and promise an epic alternative, it could be interesting. You’ll see an interesting trend occurring on Twitter now for news reader, Poppy. It’s called… #WheresPoppy. Well Poppy isn’t going anywhere, but there will be a change. What it will be I don’t know? Again I can speculate and say she might get her own show after Fresh? Maybe she’ll co-host with Roger, and go head-to-head with her pal Anele? What do you think? All very interesting and I guess what I’m doing now is what they were hoping for, talking about it and all.
Personally? I think 5 has an agenda, which I guess we’ll see unfolding soon. My vibe right now though is seeing what Cliff Central has for us… I’m VERY, VERY interested in that venture!
