Trevor Noah makes his debut on The Daily Show

Trevor Noah made history last night (a couple of hours ago, this morning or wherever you are really) when he took over the hosting duties of the hugely popular, The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Looking poised, calm and collected, Noah took the role in his stride and made an impressive debut, if I say so myself. Some of the American news outlets aren’t impressed, but that was to be expected. haters gonna hate, but for me, I couldn’t be prouder.

If you’re in SA, you’ll get to see the full episode at 9 pm tonight, but if you can’t wait that long, have a look at the first eleven minutes above 😉

Love it, well done Trevor!

See Trevor Noah make history live in NYC

unnamed

If there’s one thing that could trump a trip to NYC, it would be seeing South African comedian Trevor Noah making history in the city I love so much. And Comedy Central is giving a lucky South African, together with his/her partner the opportunity of a lifetime… to see Noah make his debut on one of the most revered shows on television – and as the host of it nogal. On the 28th of September, Noah takes over The Daily Show from the legendary Jon Stewart, and if you’re the chosen one (sit down, it’ll be me haha) you’ll get to witness this incredibly proud and fantastic moment for Noah, his legion of fans and of course the nation.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will kick off on Tuesday the 29th and it’ll air every Tuesday through Friday on Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) at 21:00 CAT, just 24 hours after the USA.

1st promo for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah released

It’s a known fact now that Trevor Noah is the new host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. He is the first South African to achieve such, and I’m extremely proud of this incredible progression in his career. I think he’ll bring a lot to the table and he’s perfectly capable of holding down the hosting duties. So may the countdown begin!

Obviously the hype will start to build now and so with that in mind, the channel has just released its first promo for the show, which kicks off later this year. Check it out:

Can’t wait to see him in action.

Official press statement: Trevor Noah takes over from Jon Stewart

COMEDY CENTRAL® NAMES TREVOR NOAH AS NEXT HOST OF “THE DAILY SHOW”

31 YEAR-OLD COMEDIAN TO TAKE THE HELM LATER THIS YEAR

Johannesburg, 30 March 2015:  South Africa comedian Trevor Noah has been selected to become the next host of the Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning “The Daily Show,” it was announced today by Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122).

Noah (www.trevornoah.com) joined “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” in 2014 as a contributor. He made his U.S. television debut in 2012 on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and has also appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman,” becoming the first South African stand-up comedian to appear on either late night show. Born in South Africa to a black South African mother and a white European father, he has successfully become the top comedian in Africa. Noah has hosted numerous television shows including his own late night talk show in his native country, “Tonight with Trevor Noah.”

“Trevor Noah is an enormous talent. He has an insightful and unique point of view, and most importantly, is wickedly funny,” said Ganeless. “For the next host of ‘The Daily Show,’ we set out to find a fresh voice who can speak to our audience with a keen take on the events of the day, and we found that in Trevor. He has a huge international following and is poised to explode here in America, and we are thrilled to have him join Comedy Central.”

“It’s an honour to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at ‘The Daily Show’ have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world,” said Noah. “In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.”

Said Jon Stewart: “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with…In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!

Speaking on behalf of Comedy Central, Africa, Evert van der Veer said, “When you hear that a South African comedian is going replace Jon Stewart as the  host of the most trusted satirical comedy show in the world, you know it’s  a great day for Trevor Noah and an extraordinary milestone for African comedy.  Supporting African comedians and comedy has been one of the key tenets of Comedy Central Africa since we started, and we salute Trevor’s achievement with pride in our hearts and a tear in our eye.”

Noah was the subject of David Paul Meyer’s award-winning documentary film “You Laugh But It’s True” which tells the story of his remarkable career in post-apartheid South Africa. Noah’s one-man show “The Racist” at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe was a sold out run that became one of the most talked about shows at the Festival that year. Recently, Noah performed for the Royal Family at the Royal Variety Performance.

Noah (@TrevorNoah) was featured on the October 2014 cover of GQ South Africa and has been profiled in Rolling Stone, Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal, and by CNN and NPR’s “Talk of the Nation,” among others. He continues to tour all over the world and has performed in front of sold out crowds at the Hammersmith Apollo in London and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

Trevor’s show’s premiere will be announced at a later date.

Noah is represented by LEG, CAA, and Morris Yorn.

Leon Schuster to be Roasted on Comedy Central next year

Leon

Comedy Central and Nandos are ready for another ‘Roasting’ and this time the honour goes to…. Comedy legend, Leon Schuster (I feel like a game show host). Schuster will will getting a grilling of a life time come the 3rd of April next year at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City.

You’ll remember last year singer, Steve Hofmeyr was the first roastee and now Comedy Central is at it again.

What do you think about their choice this time around? Who should be grilling and roasting Leon? I reckon Alfred Ntombela and Kenneth Nkosi will definitely be on the bill, but who else should be there? Tumi Morake? Basketmouth? John Vlismas? Share your thoughts in the comment section. I think this will be a cool roast, but I would also love to see someone like Julius Malema would get a little bit of a roasting. Imagine the ratings on that one and imagine his response to his roasters? It would be incredibly entertaining, Comedy Central… *winks. Maybe the third roast then? For now though, read on for the official press release on Mr. Schuster’s roast: Continue reading “Leon Schuster to be Roasted on Comedy Central next year”

Gola and Moosa jet off to Just For Laughs Comedy Festival

Riaad 4Big up to Loyiso Gola and Riaad Moosa. The two funny men will be jetting off to Montreal, Canada along with a crew from Comedy Central to participate in the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival soon. The festival takes places from the 20th to the 24th of this month.

This will be Riaad the “Comedy Doctor’s” first time at the festival, while Gola takes to the stage for a second time. On heading back to the Just For Laughs Festival, Gola said, “I’m really excited to be attending the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival for the second time. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience last year and with the acts on the line-up, I can see it being another great festival this year.  With many thanks to Comedy Central Africa – I’m really looking forward to attending with Riaad Moosa and given that Trevor Noah is also taking part, it will certainly make things more exciting!”

Here’s what Riaad had to say,  “Thanks to Comedy Central for sponsoring me during Ramadaan while we’re fasting.  I think that’s why they chose a Muslim comedian…they’re going to save the budget on food.  I’m so excited about the festival: I hope they understand my Cape Town accent…but if they don’t, I’ll use a Cape Town swear word on them!”

Now if you’re stuck in this part of the world and you’re wondering how on earth we’re going to get to see these two in action, well sit tight. Comedy Central will film highlights of their trip for comedy special “Comedy Central Presents Loyiso Gola & Riaad Moosa Live at Just For Laughs in Montreal”. It will air in December on Comedy Central.
