Are you tired of singing for your aging dogs and cats? Had enough of getting your parents to be your biggest groupies? Have you got some music that you reckon will rock the world? Well then best you keep reading folks, because Converse is proud to announce the return of its hugely successful campaign, Get Out of the Garage. The brand is giving you – the unsigned talent – the opportunity to record a track at Rubber Tracks Studio in Brooklyn, New York City (I’d enter just for that). Plus you’ll get to perform a gig at Rocking the Daisies, as well as at the iconic 100 Club in London.
Interested? Good. The competition opened last week and will remain so until the 8th of August. Judges, Jon Savage, Catherine Grenfell and Reason will then narrow the field down to just 10. It’s then up to you to decide who walks away with this awesome prize. The bands and artists will have their songs showcased on the Converse Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/converse ). If you vote and your band is announced as the winner on the 16th of September, you could be off to London to see them perform… You see with Converse you win, they win… we all win- and we love #Winning.
Last year a guy by the name of Matthew Mole walked off with this title. I’d heard his name, but I never actually put two and two together until I saw this video below. I then realised he was the guy who sang that song (you know what I mean), and I immediately became a fan. Check out his clip below:
Shoes are boring. Wear Sneakers ad is awesome, check this out:
If you’re gifted in the music department, please don’t waste an opportunity like this. It’s an incredible platform and a fantastic brand to be associated to. So go ahead, enter now so that I can profile you on the 17th of September 😉

We find ourselves in an age where we’ve become reliant on the Internet. We’re in this digital world, updating statuses, tweeting and following, uploading and blogging. This space has become my world. While it’s fine, exciting and ever changing, we often ask ourselves the question, why do we do digital? What thrill do we get out of being in this ‘world’? What opportunities have come out of being in the space? How can we pioneer, be leaders and have fun while doing it? Those are just some of the many questions out there . Here’s a video clip I got from a friend of mine, Mike Sharman of Retroviral.
Here’s the reason they do digital… and judging by the clip and their very successful 2012, they can and will continue to do digital this year and beyond. #Winning.
If you’re a music fan, you might’ve heard of The 100 Club in London. It has been around since 1942 and has played host to some of the world’s most interesting musical acts including the late Amy Winehouse, Sir Paul McCartney and many many more. Last year it faced closure due to high rentals and other contributing factors. Converse stepped in to help and thankfully it is still around.
So how does this affect you? Well if you’re an aspiring and unsigned musician they’re giving you a chance of a lifetime. You can win an all expenses paid trip to perform at the institution. All you need to do is upload your original song and your biography to the facebook group: facebook.com/converse. Judges Jon Savage (5FM), Zulu Boy and Garick Williams will narrow down the entries to ten. Those ten will then be showcased on the group and whoever gets the most votes wins. Simple.
Sounds lekker and this gives you an opportunity to showcase your talents too, so be sure to visit the group www.facebook.com/converse, follow them on Twitter@Converse_Africa or use the hashtag #Play100Club. Entries close on the 8th of July and the winner will be announced in August. Ts&Cs apply.
