Idols Top 8 song choices

Tonight’s Idols Top 8 spectacular should be absolutely awesome. The Idols stars will be singing songs from some of the biggest films in Hollywood. They will be mentored by South African-born film composer Trevor Jones, so you know this is going to be good. Here are the song’s you’ll be seeing later tonight on M-Net and Mzansi Magic:

BRENDEN LEDWABA  [@brenden_praise] – Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work”, from the 1988 John Hughes romantic comedy She’s Having A Baby, starring Kevin Bacon.

JVB: I’m not familiar with this song, so I don’t have any expectations really. I just know he’ll do it well 😉

BUNNY MAJAJA [@BunnyMajaja] – Seal hit “Kiss From a Rose” from the Batman Forever movie soundtrack in 1995.

JVB: She keeps choosing well and this is one of my favourite songs of all times! Cannot wait to see this one.

CHRISTINA WILLIAMS [@_c_williams] – Adele’s big Oscar-winning ballad from last year’s James Bond adventure, Skyfall.

JVB: Big, big song… Bold choice. Lets see how she handles this one.
CRYSTALENE NAIR (24) from Durban [@CrystaleneNair] – Whitney Houston hit “Waiting To Exhale”, from the groundbreaking romantic drama of the same name directed by Forest Whitaker.
JVB: Another big song by one of the biggest voices we’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying! I’ve always been nervous for people who choose Beyonce, Whitney and Mariah, but I’ll keep an open mind.
INNOCENT MABUSHE [@innocentmabushe] – Phil Collins hit “Two Hearts”, from the soundtrack of the 1988 British true life crime comedy Buster, starring Collins himself in the lead role.

JVB: Fun song choice. I expect a great performance, over and above the vocals.
MUSA SUKWENE[@musathevoice] – Brian McKnight ballad “Win” from the 2000 biographical flick “Men of Honor”, starring Cuba Gooding Jnr and Robert De Niro.

JVB: I’m becoming a fan of Musa. He has a great energy and his singing comes naturally, so I have high hopes for him with this song choice.
SONKE MAZIBUKO [@sonke_mazibuko] “Go The Distance” from the 1997 animated comedy “Hercules”, which was covered for the movie soundtrack by Michael Bolton and by Ricky Martin for the Spanish version.

JVB: Wasn’t the cheese done two weeks ago? Haha. This should be interesting…

ZOË ZANA [@zoe_zana] “Lady Marmalade” cover by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Mýa and Lil’Kim from the 2001 Baz Luhrmann movie Moulin Rouge!

JVB: Nice, playful song. I think it suits Zoe’s personality perfectly. I’m just a bit worried about all the different ranges she’s going to dealing with because this song was all about who had the bigger pipes, longer higher notes and the battle of the divas in my opinion. I look forward to seeing her interpretation.

I’ll be catching up on these performances after the Rihanna concert 😉

IdolsSA Top 9 song choices

Episode 13 - the Top 9

This week the #IdolsSA Top 9 will take to the stage singing songs by artists they admire, look up to and are inspired by. Here’s what they’ll be singing this week:
BENJAMIN TAINTON (19) from Noordhoek in Cape Town [@BenjaminTainton]: Coldplay “The Scientist”.

Good song and the judges seem to dig him. I’m sure he’ll do a descent job.
BRENDEN LEDWABA (19) from Graskop in Mpumalanga [@brenden_praise]: Anthony Hamilton’s “Her Heart”.

He’s going to melt hearts with this one and he’s bound to score loads of votes for a song like this… I have no doubt he is going to blow people away.
BUNNY MAJAJA (26) from Florida Glen in Johannesburg [@BunnyMajaja]: Tina Turner classic, “Proud Mary”.

Oh Bunny, you just choose such good songs. A song that matches her vocal range too. It is indeed a classic and the performance should be incredibly fun, festive. Rock it!
CHRISTINA WILLIAMS (21) from Port Elizabeth [@_c_williams]: Pink’s “Try”.

Difficult song, but a good choice too. It’s one of P!nk’s most powerful tracks and I think Christina will need to dig deep to capture all the emotions attached to it. I’m looking forward to seeing this one.
CRYSTALENE NAIR (24) from Durban [@CrystaleneNair] – Kelly Clarkson “Stronger”.

Love me some Kelly Clarkson and I’m keen to see how Crystalene brings her interpretation of the song to the stage.
INNOCENT MABUSHE (27) from Phalaborwa in Limpopo province [@innocentmabushe] – Coldplay song “Paradise”.

Love, love, love this song. I had the privilege of seeing Coldplay performing this one live in Prague last year and it was simply incredible. Don’t mess it up Innocent 😉
MUSA SUKWENE (26) from eMalahleni in Mpumalanga [@musathevoice] – Ringo Madlingozi’ “Ndiyagodola”.

I’ll be honest, I’m not familiar with this song, but I dig Musa so I’ll wait and see.

SONKE MAZIBUKO (21) from Soweto [@sonke_mazibuko] Zonke’s “Jikizinto”.

Nice song choice by an incredible artist. I think this one will be met with a positive response too. I also think under the mentoring eyes of Ziyon from Liquideep and RJ Benjamin, this one could be a stand out.
ZOË ZANA (19) from Bishop Lavis in Cape Town [@zoe_zana] – Rihanna with “Love The Way You Lie”.

Clever song choice. Rihanna will be in the country in just over a week and so she’s hot on everyone’s lips. Plus, Zoe has a similar hairdo to Rihanna in that vide (sans the colour, but maybe they’ll hook it up for this one).

Lets see how they style her this week.

There’s a great selection of artists, so don’t miss the show this Sunday on M-Net and Mzansi Magic at 17:30. Check out the official site for video interviews, news and more.
