Want to be apart of Our Continent?

Our Continent2

Check this out. Yesterday, Continental Tyre SA launched its new initiative called Our Continent. With this one they’re looking for is you and your adventure from South Africa and beyond. Upload your picture via Twitpic, make sure your Twitter locations are on when you upload, caption the picture and share your story with everyone out there. Whether you’re driving a 4×4, a motorbike or you’re hopping on bicycle to ride the Argus, one thing’s a given, you’re using a tyre of some nature to get from point A to point B. So why not share you’re experience in getting there.

The one thing I love about my cellphones is the fact that they take relatively descent photos and because my game is visual, I tend to snap a lot of pictures, so you can be sure to see some of my pics on Our Continent and soon as I am back in Afriqud du Sud.

Full press release below:

Today sees the launch of Our Continent (www.ourcontinent.co.za) –  a crowdsourced initiative from Continental Tyre SA – a map of the best on and off-road destinations from around South Africa, and eventually, even the rest of Africa.

From city to Savannah, coastline to mountaintop, whatever your adventure, Continental Tyre wants you to share your journey via Twitpic and in turn share others’ journeys with you.

We take the rubber that separates us from the tar for granted but, regardless of our vehicle of choice – two wheels or four – it is the humble tyre that moves us from one destination to another.

Continental Tyre SA has also mapped out all of its South Africa stores on Our Continent, so if you are in need of a replacement or two, you will be able to find your nearest Conti Partner on your journey via your desktop or mobile device.

Happy Youth Day

Today is Youth Day in South Africa. It’s a day that must never be forgotten. The youth of 1976 stood up to the apartheid government, some even paid the ultimate price, in order to have free and equal rights to education and democracy too. It has been 36 years since that day in Soweto and a lot has changed in our country. A lot of people seem to have forgotten the significance of the day and it seems to have become an excuse to party for many people.

We can’t forget the importance, the sacrifices and significance of this day. A group of youths who aren’t forgetting is the iSchoolAfrica Youth Press teams. They’re creating short format videos centred around themes in SA.

For today their theme is Youth Day. Check out their videos here –> http://www.youtube.com/user/iSchoolAfricaYPT?feature=mhee

Die Antwoord release “Ten$ion” teaser

One of South Africa’s most successful exports, Die Antwoord are preparing to release their new album “Tension” next month. The capetonians, who traveled around the world performing to fans last year, released their teaser for the album yesterday. The single Yo-Landi Vi$er sings in this video is called “I Fink You Freaky” and damn I do fink dat. She’s ripping out the heart of a seemingly estranged lover in the video and then she literally smashes it in her face.

More on the record as and when it becomes available.

Newsflash: P.O.D tour cancelled

It is with great disappointment that we have had to announce the cancellation of the P.O.D tour of South Africa. Shortly after the announcement of the tour, company We Rock U sent an official letter informing us they had gone bankrupt. Local tour promoters have been working around the clock to try and salvage the event as thousands of tickets have already been sold. Due to time constraints and a lack of sponsor commitment, it is with regret that we have to cancel the shows.

Thanks to each and every one of you for your enthusiastic support.

All tickets will be 100 percent refunded. For details see the note from Micket.

Micket is extremely disappointed to announce the cancellation of the P.O.D and the Slot tour to South Africa in July. After the initial promoter’s company, WEROCKU went bankrupt, local promoters tried their very best to resurrect the show and Micket supported this decision 100%.  Unfortunately time and other resources were not enough to successfully bring the show back to life and P.O.D will no longer be touring to South Africa.

The Micket team wishes to thank all of you who have shown such incredible support since the opening of Micket sales and those of you who have tried to make the show happen, as well as the patience ticket holders showed throughout the process.

Ticket holders will be refunded in FULL by Micket.  We hope to have your support for the next show and we hope to see P.O.D and The Slot in South Africa in the near future”.

Coldplay’s songs have captured millions of fans around the world since the release of ‘Parachutes’ in 2000. A critical and commercial triumph, ‘Parachutes’ debuted at number one on the UK Album Chart and was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize. After the success of ‘Parachutes’, Coldplay began to work on their second album ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ (2002) which spawned popular singles ’The Scientist’, ‘In My Place’ and ‘Clocks’ winning Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammys. The third album ‘X&Y’ became the best selling album of 2005 with world-wide sales of 11 million. ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’ (2008) is described by Martin as a new direction for Coldplay, a change from their past three albums, which they referred to as the trilogy. It became the bands first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and their first UK number one based on download sales alone.

Coldplay is undoubtedly one of the world’s best selling acts, with over 50 million album sales worldwide. They have won numerous awards through their career including six Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, seven Grammy Awards and they have headlined major festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury and Isle of Wight Festival.
