IdolsSA top six song choices

I can’t believe we’re already down to seven (on Sunday it will be six) contestants in this season of Idols. It has been a great season and the talent this season is really strong, but speaking of strong… the big dogs are really starting to shine and without mentioning their names, you know who I’m referring to. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at what the contestants will be singing this week, bearing in mind one of them wont be lucky enough to sing their chosen song for the week

Bongi Silinda (24)- Mafikizolo “Happiness”.

JVB thinks… this is a good choice. It’s a very popular song and the duo that is Mafikizolo is hugely popular. Looking forward to this one.

Demi Lee (24)  Florence and the Machines “Dog Days Are Over”.

JVB thinks… I hope she has fun with this one. It’s a good song and very suited to her style and voice.

Kyle Deutschmann (27) John Newman’s “Love Me Again”.

JVB thinks… If he survives the vote, he might doing a different arrangement of this song. I love John Newman and this is one of my songs of the year so I’m interested to see how he interprets this one.

Lize Mynhardt (21) –  Jason Derulo’s “In My Head”.

JVB thinks… She’s pushing the boundaries and going out of her comfort zone a lot, which is good. I just don’t really know what sort of music she would like to produce and make herself. I think she’ll do a fair job here.

London Louw (24) “Problem” by Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea

JVB thinks… Hmmmm, not sure about this one. It’s a tough song choice because Iggy and Ariana are so different in their styles. It’s an upbeat track so the performance side of things will be good, but the singing bit I’m a bit concerned about. Your thoughts?

Musa Mashiane (27) – Jamiroquai’s “Love Foolosophy”.

JVB thinks… Fun, fun, fun. I’m sure he’ll enjoy himself and in doing so, so will the audience.

Vincent Bones (29) “Pluto”, from DJ Clock featuring Beatenberg.

JVB thnks… Arguably the biggest song of the year, so this is a smart move. Audiences will love it too, purely because of its massive appeal to all demographics. It will be nice to see him lighten it up a bit and have some fun.

Catch the show on M-Net and on Mzansi Magic at 17:00 this Sunday. I will also be Hanging out with the outsted contestants on Monday. Keep an eye out for that too 😉

#IdolsSA – It’s Brenden vs Musa in the finale

Episode 26 - Musa, image 06    And then there were two… Next week #IdolsSA season 9 comes to an end and we’ll get to find who between Musa Sukwene and Brenden Ledwaba will be crowned the new South African Idol. It has been a fantastic season with some great talent and to be honest, I’m not really too sad if either one of them wins. I dig them both. I’ll say this much though, personally I dig Musa a lot. He has a presence, a great energy and he commands attention when he takes to the stage. What are your thoughts? Who are you digging? Idols 9: Top 3 Results

It’s Brenden and Musa in the tightest final ever!

The voters have spoken in the most hotly contested season of Idols SA ever and 26-year-old MUSA SUKWENE from eMalahleni and BRENDEN LEDWABA (19) from Graskop are going to be battling it out in the nailbiting Finalé of Idols Season 9.

SONKE MAZIBUKO (21) from Soweto fell at the final hurdle in tonight’s (Tuesday, 19 November) Top 3 Results Show, live from the Moreleta Park Church Auditorium in Pretoria, losing his chance to sing in the all-important final showdown.

Episode 26 - Brenden, image 02

This competition was so close that after their three rounds of performances in the Top 3 Spectacular on Sunday, Brenden and Musa were both at the bottom of the polls in one round and at the top of the polls in another, with Sonke, who has never been in the bottom three throughout the season, consistently stuck in the middle for all three rounds.

“It is always sad to have to say goodbye to a contestant this close to the final,” M-Net’s Head of M-Net Publicity and Special Projects Lani Lombard said tonight. “But that is the nature of Idols and Sonke can take comfort in the fact that we have never seen voting results as close as we did this season. It’s been a neck-and-neck race and in this final week of voting the pressure really is on like never before. It’s going to be an exhilarating Idols Finale.”
