Gallery: Chris Forrest wins Celebrity MasterChef SA

In case you missed it, comedian Chris Forrest walked off victorious earlier when he was announced as the first celebrity winner of Celebrity MasterChef SA. Many of this year’s contestants, together with media, M-Net representatives and other stakeholders all turned up to La Toscana in Montecasino to find out who between Chris Forrest and Patricia Lewis would be crowned the winner. Either way, they’re both won. Together the two raised over R300,000.00 for their respective charities, adding to the R200,000 raised by their fellow celebrities and contestants. That is awesome news and big up to Chris, Patricia and the others. Check out some of the pictures from La Toscana below:

MasterChef SA, Late Nite with Loyiso Gola nominated for Emmys

We love a good story, don’t we? Well as South Africans we can be super proud of two of our television productions. MasterChef South Africa and Late Night with Loyiso Gola have both been nominated for International Emmys. MasterChef was nominated in the Non-Scripted Entertainment category, while Loyiso’s show was nominated in the Comedy category. Fantastic news and rightful nominees they are. MasterChef was shot beautifully. The mix of contestants, the drama that unfolded, the food that was cooked and the show in general was just winning. Loyiso’s show is sharp, intelligent, funny and brilliant. The mix of comedians who have joined Loyiso on screen works so well and the host himself is deserving of an Emmy and more.

On receiving news about the Emmy nomination, Pierre Cloete, M-Net‘s Channel Director, says that the International Emmy nomination for MasterChef South Africa Season 1 is a huge honour: “To have the international benchmark of TV award ceremonies recognize MasterChef South Africa Season 1 with a nomination for Best International Reality Series is not only an honour, but also a huge endorsement to all parties involved. We’d like to congratulate the series producers – Quizzical Pictures and Lucky Bean Media – for creating such a high quality series. We look forward to hearing the results of this prestigious nomination.”

“Late Nite News has become part of our national conversation. It has taught us to laugh at ourselves and see the truth through humour. I see LNN as an extension of our news service at eNCA and value the hard work and dedication from Loyiso Gola, Kagiso Lediga, Tamsin Andersson and the rest of the team.” said Patrick Conroy, eNCA Group Head of News.

Tamsin Andersson, Producer of LNN said that “It’s a great feeling to have this recognition. The LNN team has worked tirelessly and passionately on the show from the beginning and it is humbling and very exciting that the Emmy’s have given us a nod. Thank you to eNCA and for all the support”.

Big up to both productions. The 41st International Emmy® Awards will be held in New York City on the 25th of November. I WANT TO GO!

Delicious Festival in pictures

The first Delicious Food & Music Festival kicked off at the Blue Hills Equestrian Estate in Johannesburg at the weekend. The festival, presented by DStv, played host to some of the biggest names in the cooking and music industries. You’ll see them in the pics above 🙂 Great day out and hopefully the first of many to come.

Kamini wins MasterChef SA

Kamini Pather

In case you missed it, Kamini Pather walked off with the title of MasterChef SA last night. The 29-year-old food blogger and radio personality from Cape Town beat out Leandri van der Wat and the other contestants to win the big prize… or should I say prizes. R400 000.00 in cash, a massive voucher from Woolworths, a new Golf7 courtesy of VW, a holiday to the Seychelles and a nice little hamper from Nederburg. Not too shabby huh?

A lot of people said it was predictable and a few others weren’t very happy with her winning, but bottom line is the judges thought she was slightly ahead of Leandri and therefore worthy of a win. Your thoughts?

Either way, I think both of them did really well and regardless of whether Leandri won or not, we haven’t seen the last of her. In fact, I was chatting to a few of the other contestants last night and they’re all doing very well for themselves. Sanet has opened a cooking school and she’s doing a lot of corporate cooking demos. Neil has opened his own consultancy firm, which I will tell you more about soon and the others have offers on the table that they can’t say too much about just yet… the famous celebrity statement 🙂 So it shows how big a platform like this is. Big up to them all.

I’m going to be interviewing Kamini in a bit, so if you have any questions, holler and I’ll try and squeeze them in.

Leandri vs Kamani, who will win MasterChef SA?

MCSAIt’s the big showdown, the moment millions have been waiting for. Who between Leandri van der Wat and Kamani Pather will be the new MasterChef SA winner? I cannot believe the season is just about done, but by this time tomorrow we’ll know who the new MasterChef winner will be.

I’d try and guess, but it’s too close to call. Do you have a favourite? Do you think you know who will walk off with the title? If so, sound off in the comment section below. Otherwise, I’ll bring you all the action tomorrow. Just follow me on Twitter: @JasonVonBerg, as I tweet up a storm for the finale tomorrow night. I’ll also be interviewing the winner on Thursday morning, so if you have questions holler!

Until then, may the best chef win 😉

MasterChef SA is cooking

Firstly, I must just say I’m not a foodie. Yeah I eat and I enjoy it, especially in social settings, but I couldn’t be assed to cook. I love watching shows like Come Dine with Me, but that’s more for the personalities rather than the food. I’ve never really gotten into shows like MasterChef (SA, UK or Australia). With that in mind, I’m really enjoying season two of the South Africa edition. It’s shot beautifully and there are people in the competition who (yes it is intended) are hungry to win it. We’re four episodes in and last night we were introduced to the top 16, who will all be heading down to the Nederburg Estate to compete in the MasterChef SA kitchen. Their names and Twitter details are below:

Amanda (30) a recruitment consultant from Johannesburg #MCSA_Amanda
Herman (34) an electrician from Witbank #MCSA_Herman
Jason (22) a graduate from Cape Town #MCSA_Jason
Joani (46) an ex-fashion designer from Durban #MCSA_Joani
Kamini (30) a food blogger and DJ from Cape Town #MCSA_Kamini
Karen (35) a stay-at-home mom from Howick #MCSA_Karen
Khumo (19) a student from Pretoria #MCSA_Khumo
Leandri (23) a scientist from Mahikeng #MCSA_Leandri
Mary (30) a professional dancer from Johannesburg #MCSA_Mary
Neil (40) a communications consultant from Johannesburg #MCSA_Neil
Ozzy (22) a student from Johannesburg #MCSA_Ozzy
Sanet (47) an ex-financial Manager from Boksburg #MCSA_Sanet
Seline (25) a civil engineer from Mahikeng #MCSA_Seline
Shannon (28) a graphic artist from Cape Town #MCSA_Shannon
Tiron (32) a video store clerk from Johannesburg #MCSA_Tiron, and
Tumi (34) a financial analyst from Johannesburg #MCSA_Tumi

Now last night I got to go through to an exclusive MasterChef dinner with a handful of celebrities, bloggers and of course Chef Benny. The tables were turned on the judge, who was now expected to cook for his guests. The guests seemed to be impressed with the charming Benny’s offering. It all worked wonderfully. The setting was great, food and wine paired perfectly and all the guests got to watch the new episode of the show, all why enjoying a good evening with great company. Check out a few pics below.
