Reviewing 2013 and looking forward to 2014 with Goldfish

goldfishlive-300x300

The year has come to an end and it has been a goodie for many of our famous friends. This week I have a few Q&As with a few familiar faces we all love and enjoy. Today’s edition features the Electro/Jazz duo, Goldfish. What wowed them this year? What’s on the cards for next year? And how can you win a trip to see them live in concert? Read on to find out more.

JVB: It has been a good year for you guys. Take us through some of your highs; your winning moments in 2013.
Goldfish: 2013 has been amazing for Goldfish. We have played some of the biggest shows and crowds around the world of our lives, released our new Album Three Second Memory, went to every continent except Antartica and had blast doing it all.

JVB: Was there a moment, an experience or something significant this year that made you go ‘WOW” or that changed your perspectives/ plans?

Goldfish: Selling out our own Festival in Amsterdam was definitely a wow moment. To have gone from playing a beach bar in Camps Bay to curating our own festival in Amsterdam with some of our favourite artists on the bill was quite surreal. Also playing Ultra Festival in Miami and coming off stage to see our website had crashed and our twitter had exploded. That just gave us a taste of the power of America.

JVB: What does 2014 hold for you?
Goldfish: We’re going to be on tour pretty much the whole year in US, UK, Brazil, Ibiza and the rest of Europe in between stints at home. Plus some very cool collab’s in the pipeline…Business as usual for the Fishies.
JVB: Any tips and/ or tricks from you to your fans to get through 2014…
Definitely check out the custom Goldfish USB stick we’ve designed available on our website goldfishlive.com – It’s got the new album Three Second Memory on it, plus Remixes and videos…and it doubles as a very cool keyring so you don’t get caught without a flashdisc ever again. Very cool little addition!
JVB: Any last messages for your fans?
Wow, just thank you for the amazing support. It sounds cheesy but it really is amazing to have such crazy fans. They’re the reason we do this! To say thank you we are running a competition in partnership with SAhotels.com for a Goldfish Fan to win a trip for two from anywhere in the world to Cape Town, with five star accommodation, and to come party with us at our Closing Party of Submerged Sundays. It’s a pretty rad prize. check out our facebook for the details.

Brandy and Monica team up again

Did you love the 1998 smash hit, “The Boy is Mine” from R&B superstars Brandy and Monica back in the day? Well if you did, like me, you’ll be stoked to know that they two have teamed up again for a new track called “It All Belongs To Me,” which is due for release on the 6th of February.

The single will be released on both their new albums respectively. Monica’s new album, “New Life” will be available on the 6th of March, while Brandy’s is expected to drop later this year.

The track is written and produced by Rico Love, famous for his work with the likes of Usher, Beyonce and Chris Brown). Looking forward to hearing it, and hey ladies… no pressure, but your last track was at number one for 13 consecutive weeks, I’m #JustSaying 😉

Watch: Jason Derulo’s new video ‘Breathing’

Let’s just put it out there. When Jason Derulo reminds us who he is in every song by singing “Jasonnnnn Derullllllo” I want to punch him. It’s painful because I share a name with him and now it’s becoming a running joke, where people (black, white, young, old, gay, straight) will sing it when they see me. Bless, it’s not that bad, but you know what I mean. I actually enjoy his music and I thought he would be a one-hit wonder, but not so much.

His new single, Breathing is probably one of his best. I love it and if it picks up, I reckon it might be a success on the dancefloors. Check out the video above and if you want to help Jason feel better after injuring his neck on tour recently, be sure to tweet using the hashtag #GetWellJason

Watch: International Love by Pitbull ft. Chris Brown

I had high hopes for this video because the song is just so good. In fact it’s one of my Summer songs for 2011/ 2012. What song am I talking about? International Love by Pitbull with Chris Brown. It remains one of my favourites, but man this video for me is weak. Regardless of my opinion or not, it has still be viewed seventeen million times so it has found it’s market and you might very well enjoy it yourself. Let me know your thoughts.

Watch: Pitbull ft Marc Anthony- Rain on Me

It has been a rough couple of weeks for Marc Anthony, but if there’s one thing he can be happy about, it’s the fact that his new track with Pitbull is doing extremely well on the charts. It’s called Rain On Me and is the follow up to Pitbull’s smash hit Give Me Everything, which features Ne-Yo, Nayer and Afrojack. What do you think?

Smirnoff launches the world’s first nightlife exchange project

What is the nightlife like in your country? Let me tell you in mine it’s fun, wild but I’ve nights I’ll never forget in other countries too. Ibiza is wild (obviously), London has a lot on offer and because of the efficient public transport system you don’t need to worry about partying too hard and then how you’re going to get home. Botswana surprised me a lot and as for Las Vegas? Well what can I say. This American city has some of the best clubs I have ever been to. The decor is incredible and the ambiance is spot on. In South Africa we have cool clubs, but the one thing we have to offer that a lot of other countries lack is the Djing talent. We’re spoiled for choice and I think the big boys inspire the up and coming stars, who are constantly being pushed to try new things, techniques all while making good quality music.

Now you’re probably wondering what brought this up; why on earth I’m rattling off about nightlife in our respective countries, so early on a Monday morning. Well there’s a method to my madness. The world’s leading vodka bran, Smirnoff has a new campaign on the go. It’s ‘The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project’. 14 counties will be participating in this campaign, in which ideas, elements and highlighted features will be shared among each other. All of the acquired elements and highlights will come together on the 27th November, when the world will swap nights and nightlife experiences.

How will this work? Well you are being encouraged to make your suggestions on the official Facebook group on anything you think is important to raise about your nightlife experience. The local expert in each country will note these. There will also be parties in and around those countries, in which suggestions will be placed in ‘crates’. Those will then be added to the Facebook suggestions and in October the participating countries will exchange crates. In South Africa, the two experts are no strangers to the nightlife scene. They’re of the FeU brand ie DJ Fresh and Euphonik. “It’s an honour to be asked to represent something as huge as The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project. In the last year or so I’ve had the privilege of travelling to Miami, London, Ibiza and New York and from what I’ve seen, South Africa has more to offer than the rest of the world anticipates and being part of the team responsible in exposing that is an amazing feeling.”

So a few things to note:
– Make yourself available for the party on the 27th of November. It’s going to be massive no doubt.
– Apart from South Africa, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Lebanon, Poland, Thailand, Ireland, Great Britain, Australia and Venezuela. Looking at the countries listed above, I would love to exchange a night with the Brazilians or the Argentineans. From what I saw during the world cup, we would be in for a massive night!
– Make your suggestions. As I said, with the caliber of djs we have in this country, that would be one of my highlights. Plus I’m sure there will be loads of prizes, possibly even trips to the respective nations going, so you could win big!
