Chris Brown is working on new music and a sample of the new offering has just been released. It’s his new single called Fine China and you can see the video above. Funky track… Hopefully he’ll be making good music like this to heal his ‘broken heart’, in light of his recent split from Rihanna

Big Brother StarGame Housemate profiles

The new season of Big Brother Africa is here. It’s called Big Brother Stargame and it officially kicked off last night. The show, in its seventh season, went live to the continent from its Johannesburg headquarters. International rapper J.Cole was on stage for a performance, as were some of choreographer Somizi’s dancers. I got to interview Cole yesterday too, nice guy and very friendly. I’ll have more from that interview this week, but for now, here are the housemate profiles for this year’s season:

Age:                34

Country:         South Africa

The following housemates from across Africa entered the Big Brother StarGame House tonight (Sunday, 6 May) in the hope of winning Africa’s biggest reality show. They are:

Babalwa entered Big Brother StarGame because she loves competing in challenges, both physical and intellectual. The model, events manager and hair salon boss from King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape says the fact that she will be pushed to the limit in the house excites her and that she loves winning – “losing ain’t for me!” she says.

Barbzis single and says that she won’t sell her morals short for money – viewers shouldn’t expect any hanky panky from her in the house, but she’s game for anything else! She loves samp & beans with oxtail and her favourite books are “Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich” and “The Secret”. She enjoys most reality TV – she’s a huge Big Brother fan – and also likes watching news channels like CNN and Al Jazeerah.

She says her favourite places in the world outside of her home country are Miami and Lagos – the former for the parties, nice people and great shopping and the latter for the “fun”.

Barbz is inspired by a lot of people, but picks her Mom as the most influential because she moulded her into the person she is today. She says her parents influenced her life most because they made sure she went to good schools and their strict nature kept her out of trouble. The qualities she likes most in other people are respect, openness, friendship and “people with backbone” while she dislikes lies, false accusations, bad-mouthing, laziness and spitefulness. She entered Big Brother StarGame to market her brand and her business, to create awareness around xenophobia and to spread love amongst Africans.

Age:                26

Country:         Ghana

Comedian, TV presenter, event organizer and talent manager DKB hails from Accra. He entered Big Brother StarGame because it’s a platform for people from different cultures and socialization to meet and bring the best out of themselves. Hedescribes himself as sociable, kind, trustworthy, entertaining and adaptable and promises viewers “non-stop entertainment”.

DKB’s role model is Tyler Perry because of the way he’s used his talent to empower black people. He says his Uncle has had the biggest influence on him “because he has taught me how to be a responsible man”.

His favourite part of Ghana is the Cape Coast, while the best thing about Africa is the culture. He’s a huge fan of Ice Cube and Tyler Perry and enjoys the music of Sarkodie, M.I.m Jay-Z, Eminem, HHP, Busta Rhymes, Usher and Freshlyground.

If he wins Big Brother StarGame, DKB would use the grand prize money to improve his life and that of his family. He would also start a business and create a charity investment that would sustain the outreach for a very long time. Hehopes that participating in Big Brother will better his interpersonal relations with people from other parts of Africa and boost his image as a formidable showbiz personality.

Idols Top 8 song choices

Sadly Phaksy from Durban was the contestant who got booted off the Idols stage last night. He took on R&B star Loyiso Bala’s I Want You, which is such a pity. He clearly likes the genre and with Loyiso being the guest judge for this week’s show, Phaksy has just missed out. Alas, that’s the way of cookie crumbles. This week’s theme is of course R&B and here is what the contestants will be singing:

Crushanda Forbes: Whitney Houston’s “I Learned From The Best

Good song choice. If anyone can pull it off, it’ll be Crushanda. She should be owning the stage this week. Let’s see.

Dave van Vuuren: the Marvin Gaye classic, “Sexual Healing

With his very emotional stage presence, this one could get interesting. He’s pushing the boundaries with this song and it almost seems a little out of his vocal range. I’m interested to see what he does with this one.

Dené Vorster: “Voice Within” from Christina Aguilera

The judges have told Dene in previous weeks that she sings the song in question well, but she lacks the emotional maturity to really get it. I think she’ll offer a good vocal on this one and I think she might surprise us all with how she interprets the track.

Erin Fourie: Beyoncé’s “Halo”

Oy vey, that’s all I’m going to say!

Freddie Van’Dango: “Rehab”, by the late Amy Winehouse

Perfect song choice for Freddie! Let’s see how he channels his inner late Amy Winehouse.

Kelly Fortuin: Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You”

She’ll do this well I feel. She keeps surprising us.

Mark Haze: “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars

This one is a crowd pleaser and so I think he’ll get lots of votes. Having said that, and I stand to be corrected but Lloyd did this song last. It’s old, a bit stale. It’s a safe song choice.

Lefa Pike: John Legend’s “Ordinary People”

BOOM! I have big expectations for Lefa this week. I love me some John Legend and if he brings out his emotional, softer side, he will win many a vote in this round. Picture Lefa sitting on a chair, nothing other than him, Johan Laas on the piano a good vocal. Let’s hope he does it well!

Janet Jackson coming to SA

UPDATE on this! Apparently she is coming to Jozi too… 11th and the 12th of November. Waiting to confirm this.

So I have a confession to make… I’ve know that Janet Jackson is coming to SA for a long time, but I wasn’t at liberty to divulge this information until it was made official. Now it is, so we can make a noise about this. Janet Janet is officially coming to South Africa this November. 94.5 KFM announced that the youngest Jackson is heading to SA as part of her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal World Tour. This is her largest tour that will see her traveling to 25 cities around the globe and the chosen city in SA? Cape Town of course. She will be performing at the Grandwest Casino in Cape Town. On the tour, the star said:

“ This tour will be different from the tours I’ve done in the past. In the way that I perform music[ally] will be exclusively from my 35 number one hits [in] 35 cities. These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done,” Jackson said. “I will be as up close and personal as possible. These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I’ll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you’ve made number ones for me. Let’s go!”

Tuesday, 15 November 2011
Grand Arena, Grand West Casino
Tickets from R350-R950

Tickets will be available from Computicket soon. Who’s going? Your favourite Janet Jackson track is? You’ll actually be surprised as to how many of her songs you love 🙂 Think it’s time to make my way to CT for this one.

Chris Brown suits up for ‘She Ain’t You’

R&B star Chris Brown has bounced back with a vengeance this year. Having hit the top of the charts with his new album F.A.M.E and scoring several top ten hits from there, the star is set to continue on that path with the release of his new track “She Ain’t You”. Last year at the BET Awards, Brown paid tribute (landed up in tears actually) to the late King Of Pop, Michael Jackson and in this video he continues to do that. The track samples MJ’s ‘Human Nature’ which is one of my personal favourite tracks. He is dressed in a white suit, which is very similar to what you will see in one of the greatest videos of all time, “Smooth Criminal“. The video is directed by Colin Tilley and it features his Seven from Richgirl. What do you think about the song and the video?

Michael Jackson – Hold My Hand ft. Akon

The an album of unreleased Michael Jackson tracks will be released next week Tuesday, titled Michael. This is the first of those tracks to make it’s way into the music world, it’s called Hold My Hand and it features good old Akon. Your thoughts? I feel the track will grow on us…

Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project: Day 1 cont.

After a chilled afternoon, we got a sneak peek into what Berlin’s nightlife is like. I must admit being a Thursday night and it being cold, I didn’t expect it to be as busy as it was. Before dinner we went for a stroll around the centre of Berlin. There was yet another Christmas market set up in the Gendarmenmarkt square. This one was much bigger than the Potsdamer Platz Our dinner reservation was for a place called Vau, which is a Michelin star restaurant. It’s not to see why that is, the service was top class, as to be expected and the food was delicious. I landed up going for Pork cheek, served with a parsnip puree, salad covered in crackling and mushroom tortelli. Yum!

None of us really felt like dessert, but the waiter brought us a tray anyway. On it was a chocolate ball filled with marzipan, nougat, a biscuit that tasted like it had fudge in it and this rich cholesterol hazard on the left. I couldn’t try that. The thought made me want to be ill, but Lizzie said it was great.
