E! Beyond the Red Carpet: SAMAs: Q&A with Minnie Dlamini

Minnie

Minnie Dlamini is one of the biggest celebs in South Africa, and E! Africa has noticed that. So much so they enlisted her and Expresso’s Katlego Maboe to host the E! Beyond the Red Carpet: SAMAs special. Check out my Q&A with Minnie Dlamini below and be sure to watch the special tonight on channel 124 on DStv.

E! Entertainment is the powerhouse of entertainment… You’re a powerhouse yourself. How does being part of this channel in SA feel for you?

It’s awesome being able to expose what I do to the rest of Africa. I look at this as an opportunity to expand not only my personal brand but being a part of the movement that highlights, celebrates and promotes the African Entertainment industry.

– Through a platform like this, what are you hoping viewers will take from such programming?

I’m hoping the viewer will see how far we’ve come as an industry but also realize that there’s more to be done in terms of development.

– Would we ever see a Minnie Dlamini reality show on E! Africa?

I’m not sure, it’s never really been my thing. I honestly don’t think my life is that interesting 😂 I’d probably go nuts. I love my privacy.

– Three red carpet tips you have for your fellow celebs, friends, followers and fans?

Start with the dress, the rest falls into place. Plan every detail hair, makeup, shoes and accessories. Lastly it’s not easy walking the carpet to be scrutinized (and people can be mean) so make sure YOU are happy with what you look like. Then the rest doesn’t matter.

– Working with the likes of Katlego Maboe on a project like this was….

Katlego and I always find each other 😂 we work together quite often and it’s always such a great reunion. I love his genuine drive and passion it’s very rare to work with someone who is not self-consumed and OUR main goal is to make a great production where we both shine in our own ways.

– What else doing Miss Minnie have on the go?

A few new hats, but all will be revealed in due course.

Minnie Dlamini to host the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards

Minnie_Dlamini_013This is big news for Minnie Dlamini. The star will co-host this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice in Lagos, Nigeria next month. I’ve been at all three #AMVCAs and let me tell you, the show is a big deal and is fast becoming one of the most respected award shows on the continent. Dlamini, an actress in her own right and a revered presenter/ host, has taken over the reigns from StarGist presenter Vimbai Mutinhiri. Minnie will co-host along with the awesome and charming, IK Osakioduwa. Press release below:

Africa Magic and MultiChoice in association with Amstel Malta, have announced the two hosts for the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs). The multi-talented, fan-favourite IK Osakioduwa returns to host the awards for a fourth time and he will be joined by a new co-host, Minenhle ‘Minnie’ Dlamini.
Minnie might be new to a lot of Nigerians but she is referred to as the ‘Diamond girl’ in South Africa. Minnie was in Nigeria this past week shooting two covers and press pictures for the prestigious awards show
In April 2013, Minnie ventured into the world of sport, ultimately spearheading the current trend of merging sport, entertainment and lifestyle. In the eight months that followed, she has had the honour of co-hosting some of the biggest sporting and lifestyle events in South Africa – maintaining her girly side while showing off her sporty and funky style.
Speaking on the announcement, Minnie said: “I am very excited to be on the biggest platform for celebrating talent in Africa. The AMVCAs recognise and celebrate film and television talent across Africa, and as a proud African, I am truly delighted to play a role in this celebration.”
”Team Minnie is delighted with the fact that The Minnie Dlamini brand is expanding in the right direction at a very rapid rate. International expansion has been in the works for a while and we are very excited about up coming projects and the association with the AMVCAs” – Jarred Doyle, Publicist and Brand Strategist
On the 5th of March, 2016, Minnie will take the stage alongside IK to present the 4th edition of the AMVCAs to viewers across Africa and the rest of the world. The AMVCAs will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
Nominees for the 2016 AMVCAs were announced on the 11th of December, 2015 and public voting closes on Friday the 26th of February, 2016. There are a total of 26 voting categories for the 2016 AMVCAs and viewers can vote up to a hundred times on multiple platforms including Wechat, mobile and web.
This is fantastic news. I’m really hoping to head back to Lagos this year. Let’s see what happens 😉

Nonhle’s back

Nonhle Thema_resizedVuzu’s V-Entertainment will celebrate its 1000th episode next week and to mark this massive milestone and occasion, the channel is bringing back the original V-Entertainment host, Nonhle Thema. Did you think she’d disappeared? Did you think she was overs? Not a chance… You can #SITDOWN. She will #BuyYou if you disrespect her 😉 #BOOM.

Full details on Nonhle’s big return in the press release below:
V Entertainment’s original host Nonhle Thema is returning to the show’s hot seat to celebrate the landmark 1000th episode of Vuzu’s popular live entertainment show.

Thema will be there to guide the gossip, peace-making, revelations and more – including when a host of A-List celebs gathered at a Joburg restaurant to mark the occasion.

The very special episode of V Entertainment – to be broadcast on Wednesday, 24 April at 18:00 – again confirms the live show’s status as providing the freshest local and international celebrity news, views and interviews on air. It’s a combination that has earned the show loyal fans throughout South Africa over the years.

The proof of V Entertainment’s pull is that many of those at the intimate A-List dinner celebration were seeing each other for the first time in ages, having had the kind of beef that’s unlikely to be classified as clean by scientists with their microscopes!

John Legend press conference – video highlights

One of my favourite artists is back in South Africa. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, it’s Mr. John Legend. The star will perform at a Women’s Day Concert, alongside Unathi Msengana and MiCasa at the Sandton Convention Centre tomorrow night. Holding down the MC duties will be the lovely Minnie Dlamini. If you haven’t got your tickets, askies, shem. You can catch him on Idols on Sunday evening then.
Earlier I went through to a press conference with the star. He’d just arrived in the country, so naturally he was a little tired. We were therefore limited to 15 questions (give or take) and a total of 13 minutes according to my video footage. So it wasn’t long at all, but we did get to hear about his new album, his Women’s Day message, on being back in SA and more. Check out some of the highlights from the presser earlier. I’ll have more on his and Unathi’s thoughts on being involved with SA Idol on Monday, so stay tuned for that.

Details for John Legend’s concert

In case you missed the news the awesome John Legend is heading back to Mzansi this August. The star is heading out as part of a Woman’s Day concert to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on the 10th of August. Legend will be sharing the stage with the lovely Unathi Msengana and SAMA winners MiCasa. The event’s host will be the lovely Minnie Dlamini.

Honestly, this might be dedicated to the ladies, but damn with a lineup like this, I’m super stoked. Legend is one of my favourite artists ever and I’m being dead serious about that. Unathi is just the bomb. I’ve known her for many years now and she’s just so great. As for the trio that is MiCasa? Well la la la la la, La Vida… These guys are the shit!

Tickets are on sale now and they start at R900 (expensive much?). Visit Computicket and get yours now.

[Audio] Minnie Dlamini interview on TransAfrica Radio

Last week Tuesday I finally got to meet the lovely Minnie Dlamini. She joined myself and my co-host Arnica Miakista on our radio show, AfroScoop on TransAfrica Radio to chat about all her projects.

You’ll remember Minnie from her presenting days on the biggest music show in the land, Live. You might’ve bought a few of her outfits from her Minnie Series range from Legit and you might have fallen in love with her character on M-Net’s The Wild. So what else is she up to? Here’s a snippet from the show, in which she discusses her involvement in the Miller Music Tour West campaign.

I really enjoyed meeting and chatting to her. She’s an incredibly talented young woman and she has achieved so much up to this point. She alluded to her biggest endorsement deal to date coming up soon. In fact that announcement will be made at South African Fashion Week on the 29th I believe. Can’t wait to hear more details.

You can catch myself and Nica on air every Tuesday between 6 and 9pm on channel 172 on the DStv audio bouquet or online at www.transafricaradio.net
