Countdown to Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D

Next week Katy Perry makes her movie debut. It’s called Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D and its set to be one of the big blockbusters of 2012. Will it live up to everyone’s expectations? Well with 75million records sold worldwide, there is no doubt in my mind that she will hit number one. In the film we get to see more than just what we see on stage. We get to see Katy as a young blonde girl. We get to see her rise to fame and of course we get to see and hear more about her marriage and subsequent divorce to Russel Brand.

There are two things I’d like to raise here. One is this, I watched this report by ABC News and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the sort of media work I intend on doing as I progress in this industry. It’s fun, but it’s cleverly crafted and well produced. Nice work ABC News. Secondly I like this trend of singers making films about their lives and their rise to fame. The other day there was literally nothing to watch on TV except Justin Bieber‘s Never Say Never film. While I’m not his demographic and therefore not such a fan, I’ve always respected the star. I reluctantly settled in to watch the film and after ten minutes I was hooked. It’s incredible to see how far he has come, how long his journey to becoming the Bieber we know him to be was (despite his age) and how talented he really is. I feel we’re going to see something very similar with Katy Perry.

As for love, does she still believe in it? “Of course. I’m going to let love lead the way and I think I will stick to it. So yes.” Love you Katy 😉

Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D releases in South African cinemas on the 7th of September.

Chronicle cast interviews

Recently I was asked to participate in a live chat with the stars from the upcoming film, Chronicle. Naturally I said yes, why not hey? I must admit I hadn’t heard too much about the film, but when I checked out the trailer online and how it had garnered over seven million views on that one clip, I thought to myself oh shit, no pressure here.

It tells the story of three teenage friends who acquire telekinetic powers after a certain incident. What is that incident? Well that’s something we’ll just have to wait to find out when the film releases on the 17th in Nu Metro theatres. It starts out really incident, with the teens poking fun and playing around with some incident bystanders, but this changes when they start to embrace their dark side. While the three are the main characters, the fourth character (in a sense) is the camera that they use to film these events (found-footage). It’s an interesting approach to film making, especially today when we all have access to smart phones, video recorders and publishing sites like Youtube, wordpress etc.

Check out the interviews with the stars in the clip above. This was done last week live from Los Angeles.

2012 Golden Globes- The Descendants wins Best Motion Pictures

Harrison Ford presented the award for the Best Motion Picture at this year’s Golden Globes. The award goes to The Descendants.

“We would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press. We had an extraordinary ensemble cast. Besides from giving a career changing performance, he was so giving of his time. I just wanted to say how much we admire you and how proud we are of you.”

We salute our fellow nominees. A big thanks to the casting crew and to the people who helped us out in Hawaii. It was a beautiful opportunity.”

Jock 3D premiere tonight

Last week I attended The Bang Bang Club premiere in Sandton, Johannesburg. Now we continue on that tip. Tonight I’m heading through to Montecasino for yet another premiere. This time it will be for South Africa’s first 3D animated film, Jock of the Bushveld. The feature film is based on Sir Percy Fitzpatrick‘s novel by the same name. This, like The Bang Bang Club, has been in the works for a long time but now audiences will finally get to see it next week Friday when it opens countrywide.

Watch the trailer now:

At the premiere tonight names like Bryan Adams, Johnny Clegg, Nianell and others are all expected to walk the red carpet at the snazzy black tie affair. Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu plays the role of spiritual leader in the film. There’s no word on whether he’ll be there, but I”ll be there, armed with my Blackberry and the work camera for video, so stay tuned. You can follow my live updates on Twitter @JasonVonBerg, otherwise check back in here tomorrow.

The Hangover Part II is coming

The Hangover is one of my favourite movies. Fact. It’s hilarious! One of those movies where you watch it and think to yourself, WTF? How on earth did these characters go through all of this during a weekend excursion for a bachelor party? Plus many of us can relate to what it’s like to wake up to one of those horrendous headaches and hangovers, where you think wow what on earth did I do last night and why on earth did I do that too. Well because the first installment of the franchise was such a success, the producers decided it was time to do it again. So in short, the boys are back for The Hangover Part II. This time they’re in Bangkok (oy vey). The movie is set for release on the 27th of May. I’ve diarised it. I think you should do the same!

Check out the synopsis of the film below:
“The Hangover Part II” is director Todd Phillips’ follow-up to 2009’s smash hit “The Hangover,” which became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time and also won the Golden Globe for Best Film – Comedy or Musical.

Reprising their roles from “The Hangover,” Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha star in the film. Jeffrey Tambor, Ken Jeong and Mike Tyson also rejoin the cast.

In “The Hangover Part II,” Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. Continue reading “The Hangover Part II is coming”

Rio 3-D is coming

Can’t wait to see this film. It’s called Rio and it’s the newest offering from the creators of Ice Age. Some of the voices you’ll get to hear include Anne Hathaway, Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg and Jamie Foxx. The film is directed by Carlos Saldanha and it’s written by Don Rhymer. It tells the story of Blu (a domesticated macaw) who meets the very independent Jewel. After meeting her, the two embark on a journey to Rio de Janeiro. Sounds like a lot of fun, and speaking of fun, check out the video above of Nigel. In the clip, you’ll get to hear why he’s not a “pretty bird” ha. The film is due for release in South Africa this April.

One more clip. Have a look at old Jamie Foxx in studio and featured guest Will.i.am makes an appearance too:

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

As we build up to the big release of Justin Bieber’s film biopic Never Say Never next month, more videos are circulating on the web. Here’s another short clip where Justin’s manager shares his experience of working with the Biebs.

Bieber Fever aint over

Justin Bieber is no doubt the biggest name to come out of the entertainment industry last year. He was here, there and everywhere. Really he was. Flying here, visiting there, endorsing that. If you think Trevor Noah’s face being on many billboards around SA, his voice being in several commercials on TV/ Radio/ Online, was bad, well ‘Bieber Fever’ really became a world-wide phenomena. Well if you were hoping it would die down, think again! In just under a month, the Justin Bieber 3D biopic hits theatres around the world. It’s called Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and it will be released on February 11th, 2011 (in the US. I’ll find out if it’s worldwide for all y’all Bieber fans). Looking at the trailer above, I will shamelessly admit that I’m keen to check this out. For a kid his age, Justin Bieber has achieved so much. Half of which many of us will probably never get to experience. So big up to Little Biebs. May more $$$$$$$$ be rolling your way come Feb- I bet Selena Gomez will get a nice little Valentine’s Day prezzie then!

The Social Network no.1 at the Box Office, gets Oscar buzz

A couple of years ago, Justin Timberlake brought Sexy Back when he released his Grammy/ Platinum and all-round awesome album, FutureSex/LoveSounds. Now the star has seemingly taken a step back from the music scene and jumped full throttle into acting. His new film, The Social Network is sitting at number one on the US Box Office charts, having taken over $23million this weekend alone. The film might be fresh on the movie scene, but already it’s garnering Oscar buzz. JT in particular who plays the role of Sean Parker. When asked by the Chicago Tribune about the Oscar talk, the star said, ” That’s very kind, but I don’t know how to respond to that. I’m physically uncomfortable with this right now. I just feel like there’s nothing I can say. At the risk of sounding cliche, there was a reason why I have always wanted to get into film, but an award was never a part of it. After all, I started off doing sketch comedy and music on a television show on the Disney Channel when I was a kid.”

Don’t be so humble and modest JT, you’re good… go with it!

Just reading Parker’s Wiki entry and how he was forced to leave the multimillion dollar corporate that is Facebook because of being in possession of cocaine in 2004.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the film:
On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history… but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

Check out the trailer below:

The Social Network opens in South African theatres on the 5th of November.
