It seems as if Beyoncé’s self-titled surprise album last year hit the right spot because the Drunk In Love (questionable according to reports at this stage) cracked 8 nods for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The star has been nominated in prestigious Video of the Year category, alongside Pharrell, Miley and Iggy… Oh and Sia. Very tough category, but it’s nice to see such a competitive category. This isn’t the only category that Beyoncé’s fans will have to hope and pray she wins – stiff competition from Ariana and the like. Check out the full list of nominees below and to see the awards, diarise the 24 August. They’ll be taking place at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Pity I’m one month shy of attending the awards. I’ll be States side a month later, but hey… let’s see what happens. Maybe I’ll get lucky. *Coughs, drops a hint haha.
VIDEO OF THE YEAR:
Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX – “Fancy”
Beyoncé ft. JAY Z – “Drunk In Love”

Any fans of MTV’s Geordie Shore out there? Well if you are and you happen to be in the Johannesburg area this weekend, best you hit the gym quickly, get your spray tans did and head through to H20 tomorrow because Holly and Scott are in town. And they’ll be there tomorrow partying hard with the rest of the H20 boychees and bints. They’ll be there from 12 and if the show is anything to go by, they wont be heading home early 😉
If you aren’t able to be there, then don’t worry too much. The fifth season of the hit show kicks off on MTV this coming Tuesday (October 1st). You can tune in at 21:15 on DStv channel 130, MTV. Otherwise check them all out on Twitter:
Be sure to use the hashtag #GeordiesdoJozi too! I’m hanging with the two later today. If you have any burning questions for them, drop me a tweet or a comment below.
Well almost all of them… There’s nothing about the now infamous twerking at the VMAs performance, but Miley Cyrus does answer questions about her music video for We Can’t Stop and how she broke a record for the song. There will be loads of other videos and interviews like this coming out in the build up to Miley’s new album, Bangerz which is due out soon!
The MTV Video Music Awards are going to be massive this year. The fact that Justin Timberlake is rumoured to be reuniting with his ‘N Sync band maters; that Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus are all the talk of the town at the moment and that they’re all going to be there is a clear indicator that the VMAs will be #winning.
So in the build up to Sunday night’s big awards, there are several promos doing the rounds on the web. They’re awesome. Don’t believe me? Check them out:
Katy Perry has the eye of the tiger in her promo…
Justin Timberlake will perform on the VMA stage for the first time in six years and he’s getting a special award too!
Here’s Lady Gaga’s Applause promo:

The MTV Video Music Awards will go live to the world from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on MTV. For peops on my timezone, they’ll be on DStv Channel 130 at 03:00 CAT on Monday 26 August. Check your local listings for times.
If only I was a bit younger… sigh! Anyway, sob story done 😉 Aspiring VJs, it’s your chance to shine… MTV Base is looking for a new VJ and this is your last chance, as auditions roll into Jozi today. No pressure fellow Jozi residents, but the City of Gold needs to outshine the rest of the country ya hear? Good!
The auditions are taking place at Melrose Arch today. You’ll need to impress the very talented judging panel, comprised of comedian Joey Rasdien, your Queen B, Bonang Matheba and of course the original VJ winner, Sizwe Dhlomo. You know they’re young and entertaining, so that should be a good indicator as to what you need to bring to the auditions.
If you win the competition, not only will you get a cushy gig of a lifetime at one of the most iconic brands in the world, but you’ll be driving there in style. There’s a Citroën DS3 Cabrio up for grabs too. Not too shabby huh?
Here are a few things to note: Registration for the MTV Base VJ Search auditions starts from 9:00 am on Saturday 27 July. Applicants are encouraged to be on-site early as auditions will take place on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must be South African residents between the ages of 18-25 with fluent English and no criminal record. Prior presenting or TV experience is not required. Applicants must bring valid ID with them and be available to participate in the elimination phases of the competition between 30 July and 7 August. For full terms and conditions, to download the audition script and to view online submissions, please go to www.mtvbase.com and follow the link to the MTV Base VJ Search microsite. To upload a video entry, please upload a 30 second video clip (.m4v, .mp4 format) to www.mtvbase.com, or send your clip as an attachment or email a link to your video on YouTube to firstname.lastname@example.org.

If you want to know one thing about it, it’s that I always wanted to be an MTV VJ. I had aspirations of being a VJ on the hugely popular show, TRL… I mean who didn’t want to interview some of the biggest names in the game, live and direct from Times Square in New York City (only the best city in the world might I add). Sadly, the closest I got to that was actually being an audience member back in 2007 and shortly after the MTV pulled the plug on the show.
The dream of working in NYC is still there and maybe it will be more behind the scenes at MTV, but that’s a side note. If you’re young, funky, fresh and fly and you want to work at MTV Base then here is your chance. The music network is once again embarking on its VJ search and you could be the chosen one. Auditions take place in Umhlanga this weekend and if you think you have what it takes to join the likes of Sizwe, Nomuzi Mabena and many others then head on down to Gateway Theatre of Shopping this Saturday.
