Watch: Mi Casa release Chocolat music video

One of my favourite musical outfits out of Mzansi is Mi Casa. They started off singing about “These Streets,” which resonated with millions of South Africans and scored the band an instant following on social media, TV, radio, print… everywhere. Their second album Su Casa dropped just over two years ago and the hit singles just kept coming. So much so that when I was invited to their third album launch, I was completely astounded when J’Something told me it had been over two years since their last release.

The guys have been traveling, gigging, doing other collabos, doing cooking shows and somehow they managed to squeeze in 25 new tracks on their double disc, Home Sweet Home album. I’m still listening to all of the tracks, but I have my early favourites in Chocolat and the amazing Chasing The Sun. The first single is of course Chocolat, and the video has just dropped online. You can watch it below:

It’s J’s directorial debut, and I think he did a superb job. Great song, great video, great album… Mi Casa, you’re just great. Unashamed stan 😉

PS, J will be on my show tomorrow at 11 am. Tune in!

Watch: Shekhinah and Kyle Deutsch take it Back to the Beach

This song though!!! Local music at its best…. Just ahead of the new season of the new season of Idols on M-Net and Mzansi Magic, Idols alumni Shekhinah and Kyle Deutsch drop their music video for the single Back to the Beach. The video is directed by Mark Edwards and produced by Sketchy Bongo.

It might be winter, but gosh you can bring on the December chilling vibes. I’m ready!

Rihanna drops ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ video

Rihanna is once again pushing the boundaries with her new video, Bitch Better Have My Money. #BBHMM dropped online a few hours ago and well, I’m going to let you watch it and come to a conclusion for yourself. I think the video makes up for what is otherwise a pretty weak song for me. My opinion, I still love Riri though!

Ne-Yo returns to SA for MTV Africa Music Awards 2015

Tell your MAMA that R&B superstar NE-YO is on his way back to Mzansi. The Grammy winner will be out here for the MTV Africa Music Awards, going down in KZN on the 18th of July.
On performing in Durban for the first time, the R&B crooner said, “I can’t wait for you to see what I have in store Durban! I hope you’re ready, because I am!”

Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, “We are very excited to welcome NE-YO to MAMA 2015 for his first ever appearance in Durban.  As a sensational live perfomer and truly accomplished R&B star, NE-YO’s an all-round class act who will greatly complement the African performers on the show.”
I’ve had the privilege of meeting NE-YO. As a fan and as reporter, I can tell you he is one of the nicest, most humble people in the industry. He’s a talent to behold and trust me, if you’re going to be at the MAMAs, you will not be disappointed.

Tickets for the MAMAs are on sale at Computicket now. Visit the site for more details and to join the conversation about the awards please use the hashtag #MTVMAMA2015.

@monArkband ready to rock out at @OM_Concerts

Old Mutual Music at the lake series is back and this weekend they have a killer line up. The highly acclaimed, Gangs of Ballet together with SAMA nominated band Monark will take to the stare on the 10th of May. I caught up with the guys from Monark to find out what they have in store for us and also how the rest of 2015 is looking for the band:
1. You’re going to be out and about at Old Mutual Music at the Lake this weekend. What have you got in store for us?
Well, hopefully there is a certain standard of live show you have come to expect with bands such as Gangs of ballet and Monark so we will as always trying to deliver and maybe exceeding it with a touch of something new.
2. Sharing the stage with Gangs of Ballet is…? Tell us about touring and hanging out with them for such a concert
They are such an inspiration to all of us! SInce our first tour with them on their album launch they have inspired us to always work on our live show and make sure it is the best it can be. Hanging out with them is just a lot of random jokes and also some serious conversation about life!
3. If you could cover one of their songs it would be which one and why?
Their latest single…what’s it called again…oh yeah Love is on it’s way. Such a hot Rocking song!
4. It has been quite a busy year and a half for you guys, since you burst onto the scene in 2013. Tell us about the Monark ride so far. Highs, lows and everything in between.
It is really difficult to describe the ride so far in words. Thankfully a lot more ups than downs. I think part of our success is the fact that we are never happy with where we are and trying to better in all areas of our band and business.
5. Did you ever imagine you’d crack a Best Pop Album nomination at the SAMAs?
Secretly deep down we really hoped for one. But to get three nominations in the end was totally mind blowing!
6. Whenever I’m with friends or family in the car or near a radio and we hear one of your tracks, people always comment on how international your sound is. How does that make you feel?
That is definitely a major compliment for us, but also in the South African market it creates a bit of a stumbling block when you really are Proudly South African. So we are working hard to get  people to realize that we are not in fact international but from SA and mostly Afrikaans for that matter…:)
7. Do you plan on branching out and taking your music to international shores?
We have definitely talked about it, but for now we are happy to just work on our craft here in SA!
8. What else do you have on the cards for the rest of 2015?
We can’t wait for the release of our next single called Hush. The music video is so hot and was done by the SAMA winning Ryan Kruger. Then we are also planning a re-release later in the year of our debut album with some extra content on there.
9. Your favourite track to play live is?
Smiling! It’s the song that started it all for us

Gates open at 13h00 for pre-sold tickets (R140 through and at 13h30 for on-the-day ticket sales (R160).  MonArk starts playing at 14h30, followed by Gangs of Ballet.

Mumford & Sons release The Wolf

Mumford & Sons

Last year I recall reading an article about Mumford & Sons deciding to ‘call it a day’, saying that Babel was their last album. Coincidentally it happened to be only their second one. I was quite shocked, astounded really. There is something very special, distinct and incredible about Marcus Mumford’s voice and their music is just so refreshing. They really blew up and with the success of Sigh No More and Babel, multiple awards including the coveted Album of the Year award at the Grammys, the band really seemed to be soaring.

Well that’ll teach me (and you if you were fooled) to not believe everything you read. They just took a break, understandably, but now they’re back and gearing up to release their brand new album called Wilder Mind. The album is expected to drop on the 4th of May, whoop!

Last week they dropped the second single from that album, which is called The Wolf. Have a listen below:
