I think I live in a bubble… in a very naive, happy-go-lucky bubble. I know there is crime in the city and country that I reside in and I know that there are fraudulent deals going on around and probably a lot closer to me than I think. When it comes to the dark, underground, gangster world, I’m a little puppy dog in and amongst a pack of destructive and dangerous wolves. What am I talking about? Well there’s this new documentary film out today called, 204: Getting Away With Murder and it takes a look at this very dark world. Mining magnet Brett Kebble was killed in 2005… The build up to and the circumstances around his death are depicted in this story – and the filmmakers have done so with exclusive interviews with the likes of Mikey Schultz, Nigel McGurk and Faizel “Kappie” Smith Jackie Selebi, Glenn Agliotti and Roger Kebble, to mention a few. Schultz is the self-confessed hit-man, who pulled the trigger (after several attempts) on Kebble. The way he openly talks about shooting Brett is nothing short of scary. This is someone who ended another person’s life! Yes it might’ve been at Kebble’s request, but still… The way he talks about that night is like me explaining to a friend how I went for a run this morning. Anyway, it’s fascinating to hear about this world and how these people are all around us. Makes you watch your back a lot more, that’s for sure. I think I’m quite happy with my middle class, somewhat boring life 😉
I went through to the screening earlier this week and shortly afterwards, Director Warren Batchelor and co-producer Tony Migeul chatted to guests and media about the five long years of putting this together. Check it out below:
What’s quite weird is that Schultz has been ‘quiet’ for a while now, but just last week he made an appearance in the Pretoria High Court at the Oscar Pistorius Trial. It’s believed he was there to support a friend, who may have been called to the stand, but there was a few words exchanged between Schultz and the Pistorius family and then they left. Maybe getting people talking about him again, so that the public will go and watch the film? Possibly!!!
The last time I saw Jeremy Piven on my TV screen was in the hugely successful series, Entourage where he played the often douchey, but hilarious Ari Gold. I’d seen him in other roles prior to that I enjoyed him, but I became a fan after his Hollywood go-getter role. He was sharp, witty and just so awesome to watch. Well if you, like me, dig him then you’ll be happy to know that he’s back and this time he’s playing he role of Harry Gordon Selfridge in BBC Entertainment‘s MR SELFRIDGE. This period drama kicks off on DStv channel 120 on Sunday 13th October.
IMDb describes the show as follows, “Centers on the real-life story of the flamboyant and visionary American founder of Selfridge’s, London’s department store.” I have a longer synopsis and a more detailed look at episode one and after reading that, I’m definitely going to be setting my “Series Record” option on my PVR for the season. I’m always amazed by how simple ideas become massive empires. I also really enjoy these period dramas, so I’m certain this show will be fantastic. SIDEBAR For those of you in Johannesburg, you might want to do the same because Rihanna is here that night 🙂

Ben Affleck‘s film, Argo is one of the big titles in the awards season circuit at the moment. Argo is based on a true story, in which a CIA secret operation devises a plan to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel from Iran.
While Ben will miss out on an Academy Award (much to everyone’s disbelief), his film continues to make waves across the globe. I haven’t had the chance to see it yet, but I’m reading the book and I’m loving the story. Movie to follow soon though.
Some of you might have seen the film already and besides the talented actors, director, storyline and production values, you might have also seen some items in the film that you thought “Damn I could use that”. Well I have five hampers up for grabs courtesy of Nu Metro and Warner Bros., consisting of the following:

· Passport Holder

Recently I was asked to participate in a live chat with the stars from the upcoming film, Chronicle. Naturally I said yes, why not hey? I must admit I hadn’t heard too much about the film, but when I checked out the trailer online and how it had garnered over seven million views on that one clip, I thought to myself oh shit, no pressure here.
It tells the story of three teenage friends who acquire telekinetic powers after a certain incident. What is that incident? Well that’s something we’ll just have to wait to find out when the film releases on the 17th in Nu Metro theatres. It starts out really incident, with the teens poking fun and playing around with some incident bystanders, but this changes when they start to embrace their dark side. While the three are the main characters, the fourth character (in a sense) is the camera that they use to film these events (found-footage). It’s an interesting approach to film making, especially today when we all have access to smart phones, video recorders and publishing sites like Youtube, wordpress etc.
Check out the interviews with the stars in the clip above. This was done last week live from Los Angeles.
Coming this October is the highly anticipated The Three Musketeers. Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, the action packed film, which will be released in 3D. It boasts an impressive lineup of stars including Milla Jovovich, Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Gabriella Wilde, James Corden, Juno Temple, Freddie Fox with Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz. Here’s a short synopsis of the film:
The hot-headed young D’Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.
In the build up to the release of the film, the theme song for the film was announced on Monday. It’s from UK band Take That and it is called When We Were Young. The guys from Take That were inspired to write the song after watching the film in Los Angeles with the film’s director Paul W.S. Anderson. The group’s Gary Barlow said, “The film is visually so rich and beautiful that our main challenge was to then match it musically. We’ve returned to guitars, real pianos and a conventional song structure to achieve this. We also thought that the Musketeers reminded us of ourselves.” Will this song live up to the hugely successful All For One from the original film back in 1993? Remember that one featuring Sting, Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart? Have a listen here.
Nu Metro films will release the film in October. Stay tuned, I’ll bring you more as it becomes available on this title.
Last night’s red carpet event was awesome. I can’t believe how quickly it went. I’ve been building that event up for almost three weeks now and just like that it was over. When the guys and girl arrived on the red carpet the crowds went mad, especially for Bradley Cooper. Ed Helms was a great sport, he gave me some good sound bytes, as did Ken Jeong and Jamie Chung. She is beautiful too! I’m sitting down with all of them tomorrow again in a more intimate and less noisy environment, so if you have any burning questions you want answered, holler. Love letters and virtual bras can be sent to the following email addi: JOKES!
So today I’ve spent most of the day editing the video and doing some other work. Being a Virgo, I strive for perfection and I’m pretty chuffed with what I’ve produced. I will share the video tomorrow morning. I then decided to get some fresh air, what with it being 27 degrees in Berlin today and all. So off I went to this cool sports store called Karstadt, where I had some goodies to buy for my little cousin. It took me an hour to walk there, but I strolled through the park, along the high street, past the Berlin Zoo and the little side walk cafes. I stumbled across a couple having a little lunch break in their car if you know what I mean, which was awkward turtle.com. I scurried off and upped my pace a bit. After that I saw some of other shops and I felt the need to go in and see what they had on offer. Needless to say the European summer fashion isn’t quite me, so my bank balance will remain in a happy, warm and fuzzy place for now.
I now find myself blogging, tweeting, checking FB and catching up on the latest entertainment news. Cheryl Cole has been sacked from X Factor America according to TMZ? Kim Kardashian‘s hubby-to-be blows 2million on an engagement ring? Look she’s amazeballs but seriously, 2 million? That’s just dumb! I also read an interesting article about the 15 most bicycle friendly cities in the world. Berlin is most certainly one of them with the amount of cyclists I saw today and big up to the Mother City for being on that list. Cape Town has had a good year thus far. Tripadvisor’s number 1 travel destination and now one of CNN’s most bike friendly cities. Nice and I trust capetonians and their bikes more then I do when they’re driving their cars! JOKES! Love you Cape Town.
So tomorrow is a big day. I’ll keep you posted with the interviews etc and don’t forget The Hangover Part II opens tomorrow. Click here for show times in SA.
Don’t forget the movie releases in Nu Metro theatres around the country this coming Friday. I saw it today and I loved it. If you enjoyed the first one, there’s enough plus more to make you enjoy the second.
