Pick n Pay Taste of Christmas coming this December

We’re in September and you know that means that the Christmas decorations are just about to hit the stores. Jokes, not really, but soon enough the eager Christmas capitals will be back to make us spend our hard-earned cash. I sound like the Grinch huh? Quite the opposite actually. I like the festive season and here’s something you can look forward to coming in December.

The inaugural Pick n Pay Taste of Christmas is set to take place on the 7th to the 9th of December at the Coca-Cola Dome, Northgate, Johannesburg. The event will feature carefully selected restaurants, which will be serving up some Christmas inspired dishes and handing out some useful tips ahead of the big day.

On announcing the festival, Taste Festivals Director Justine Drake said, “Pick n Pay Taste of Christmas is a celebration of the festive season combining the best of the holidays with oodles of eating, drinking and shopping, a dash of old fashioned goodwill and loads of Christmas cheer.”

So just to recap, the festival takes place from 7-9 December 2012 at the Coca-Cola Dome in Jozi! Tickets are priced from R80 and include a tasting glass. 2012 Knysna Oyster Festival is on

Last year I had the privilege of visiting the quaint and awesome town of Knysna as part of the build to the annual Knysna Festival. I had such a great time there and at that stage I said I’d go down this year for the actual festival. I thought let me get my running on and while I’m down there I could do the 21km. Unfortunately I wont be doing the run anymore, nor will I be heading down to Knysna, but next year it’s on. That’s for sure.

That aside, the festival is on and this year they’re going digital. The festival organisers have launched a very user-friendly app as part of Pick n Pay’s Goodness Campaign. The app has replaces the booklet and it is part of an ongoing effort to a paper-free festival. It can be downloaded on various devices including BlackBerry, Android, iPhones and iPads. The app provides all the necessary information needed to enjoy the festival and its various offering including directions, events, the festival schedule, news and competitions

Are you The Ultimate Braai Master?

Do you consider yourself to be an awesome braai-er? Have you got a dream of showing the rest of the nation how it is done? Well here’s your chance. SABC 3, Pick n Pay and Cooked in Africa films are looking for you.

The Ultimate Braai Master television show is the brainchild of Justin Bonello, who is famous for his bush cooking and culinary delights around the continent in the form of a few very successful TV shows. This show is will launch later this year and it will roll out as a 13-part reality TV show. Bonello will select fifteen teams that will consist of a Braai Master and a Braai Buddy. Those teams together with Bonello will be visiting 13 different locations, in a 52-day adventure. The winner stands a chance of pocketing R500 000, a car and of course the title of the “Ultimate Braai Master”.

Sounds great right? Well it will be, but it wont be a walk in the park as Bonello says. “To earn The Ultimate Braai Master title, teams will have to sign up for a 52 day road trip, during which time they’ll be expected to occasionally catch their own food, source their ingredients under the toughest conditions, and cook to a standard of culinary excellence that will thrill our judges and raise the bar on the kinds of meals that can be produced on an open fire.”

Keen. Well you need to:


–   Be a food lover who is slightly above average in the cooking department.

–   Be 18 years and older

–   Have a valid driver’s license.


You need to enter online at by no later than Monday, 27 April.
