On Saturday, 4th Avenue in Parkhurst erupted into a mix of carnival colours, as a bunch of flashmobbers took to the streets. They were there to promote the alcoholic drink, Redd’s. Patrons from Rocket, Expresso and some of the other surrounding restaurants joined in on the fun. There were even a few celebs spotted in the crowd including 94.7’s Anele Mdoda. I also saw Lunga Tshabalala, Jay Anstey and 5FM’s Poppy Ntshongwana there too. Good fun, great weather… This is Jozi!
It might be cold out there, but come the 27th of July things will get all kinds of hot when some of SA’s biggest names gather together for this year’s YOU Spectacular. The event goes down on 27 July at The Lyric, Gold Reef City, Gauteng and if you’re wondering who the big nominees are this year, check out the full list below:
You’ll also see my predictions for who I think will win… To make it fair, I’ll select two (especially because some of the categories are too close to call) and note this does not necessarily reflect my preference, it’s who I think stands a better chance. They’re all equally deserving of the awards, but there can only be one.

Let’s be frank, the weather in Johannesburg is kak. It’s cold, windy and just when we thought we’d say adios to winter, that little bitch decided to show us who’s boss. We get you, now you can go. While the wintery conditions might not be ideal for partying, people of Jozi listen up. You will want to venture off to Rosebank tonight. The Ultimix @ 6 Volume 3 tour comes to an end tonight and those involved are going out with a bang. The party is set to take place in the parking lot at The Zone, Rosebank from 9pm. R50 will get you in and on the decks tonight is the Ultimix @ 6 competition winner, Ryan The DJ. 5FM’s DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Poppy as well as DJ Kent will be attempting to raise the roof of P5 at The Zone and you know this is going to be mad cool. So be tough, be #847Strong and get on down to the Zone for one of the hottest parties of the year.
The annual South African Music Awards took place at the Sun City Super Bowl on Monday evening. As to be expected the lovely Zahara stole the show, scooping at least eight trophies at the coveted music awards. Big up to her and big up to Randall Abrahams and his team for an incredible event. What a huge success. The yellow carpet is something that us working media need to work on. There is such a thing as etiquette and we still haven’t figured that out, but all in due course I guess. Alas, here are a few pictures from the yellow carpet. Above is the beautiful and incredible Bonang Matheba, wearing Gert-Johan Coetzee.
Vuzu‘s Lalla wearing David Tlale.
Top Billing’s Lorna Maseko in Thula Sindi.
Dancer and singer Somizi Mhlongo in David Tlale and shoes by Alexander McQueen.
Thembi Seete and her fiance looking good.
One of my absolute best, it’s the lovely Lira.
5FM’s Poppy Ntshongwana in Loin Cloth & Ashes.
The beautiful Boity.
Five-time nominee Zakwe chats to 5FM’s Poppy.
