MBay Megafest postponed for now… Read the statement

Sadly the Mbay Megafest wont be happening this weekend. The concert was set to take place in Port Elizabeth over the weekend with a star-studded lineup including Neyo, Ludacris, Shaggy, Micasa and others. Unfortunately is has had to be postponed until further notice. Read the full statement below.

MEDIA STATEMENT

BAY MEGAFEST WILL HAPPEN

The Mbay megafest which will feature artists like Neyo, Ludacris and Shaggy will happen but not in June organisers today confirmed.

A new date for the concert is yet to be decided but June has been ruled out.

Zeranza SA CEO Andrea Wessels said the international artists’ fees had been paid in full into a trust account which would be disbursed to the artists after their performances “as per agreement, which is binding.”

She said the artists remained “very keen” to perform in South Africa and the concert will happen.

Wessels apologised to fans who had bought tickets and made travel arrangements from across South Africa to attend.

“The decision to postpone was not made lightly’’, she said.

“The postponement gives us a chance to market more widely and ensure that when the concert does take place it is not only economically viable for us and many local suppliers who benefit,  but that the experience for fans and artists of a full stadium will be fitting of what is a globally noteworthy occasion.”

“A postponement was the wisest decision under the circumstances and we trust that fans will appreciate the sincerity of the decision and our apology for inconvenience caused.’’

Wessels said tickets purchased would remain valid for the new concert date and that purchased tickets would be honoured at the gate.

“Those who need the cash can also get a full ticket refund from Computicket or the outlet from which they purchased the ticket, no quibble,’’ Wessels said.

She said the company would alert residents as soon as a new date for the megafest was established.

Meet this year’s Elle New Talent Designer winner

“Winner of the prestigious Elle New Talent Designer Search announced.

Winner of the prestigious Elle New Talent Designer Search announced

Meet this year’s Elle New Talent Designer winner Kelly Esterhuyse. The PE resident took home the prestigious award last week at the opening of SA Fashion Week, held at The Rosebank in Johannesburg. This is the tenth year the search has been held, which has seen designers David Tlale and Tiaan Nagel launching their careers in the industry. For these awards, the people at Elle have teamed up with Mr Price, whereby the winner (Kelly) will get to design a line for Mr Price. She also walked away with R25 000.

Trend analyst and chief judge Dion Chang said, “Ultimately what made Kelley’s range stand apart was her ingenious use of a much underutilised resource in South Africa – merino wool.  Knitwear has not appeared in a major way in this competition before and we liked her use of a local, indigenous textile which needs to be promoted,” he added. South African Merino wool is highly prized around the world except in South Africa where it has yet to be tapped into as a valuable local resource.

On her line Kelly said, “Coming from Port Elizabeth, which is known as the mohair capital, I was introduced to the use of mohair at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where it is a compulsory part of our studies. Colour can make knitwear kitsch, so I kept it simple and natural,” explained Esterhuyse. And that simple and natural element seemed to have hit the right spot with Elle Editior Jackie Burger, “She took a home grown textile and gave it a viable platform. She also tapped into a huge trend – craft.  By knitting her range she showed innovation and initiative.”

Following her win, the new talented designer will begin her two-week mentorship soon at the Durban Mr Price headquarters. “This has been the most incredible experience and the exposure is awesome,’ said an elated Esterhuyse after receiving her award. “I finish my studies this year and I can’t wait to start my own label – Ulijana, which means creative spirit in French.  I am so grateful to Elle and Mr Price for this opportunity.”

Busta Rhymes in PE?

So Twitter’s going bonkers this morning at the news that American hip-hop star, Busta Rhymes is in SA. For what? Performing where? Well here’s what I can tell you. Apparently he’s performing in Port Elizabeth at the new soccer stadium there. Random, I say random… I mean I love PE, but seriously? One of my followers on Twitter told me that the organisers are completely useless and that just 200 tickets have been sold. So why on earth has nobody said anything about this concert? Why’s it so hush hush? The organisers have some answering to do then if the likes of Wonderboom and Ready D have been told to pull out!

Farewell to yet another talent

It’s been a sad weekend indeed for the entertainment and music industry. First the news of Farrah Fawcett‘s passing on Thursday. That was followed by the sudden death of the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. If that wasn’t enough, South African muso Fred Hayward (Bassist in Mean Mr Mustard) passed away after suffering a heart attack on Saturday. He, together with his band mates, were performing at Wildfees in Port Elizabeth. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest In Peace Fred
