Gallery: #CliffCentralRocksChristmas at Gold Reef City

Last night my #Unradio family at Cliff Central held the first of many event at the Lyric in Gold Reef City. The event saw the ‘president’ of Cliff Central, Gareth Cliff sharing the stage with the likes of Jennifer Su (my co-host), Hlubi Mboya, Tumisho Masha, ProVerb, the fantastic, amazing Soweto Gospel Choir and many other personalities from the station. I manned the ticket desk in fear of making all the guests evacuate their seats at the sound of my singing voice 😉

Idols SA – Tumi eliminated

Episode 12 - Tumi, image 01

Regional auditions are done, theatre week is wrapped… The Top 16 brought with it loads of drama and then a further six were cut, leaving us with the top 10 undiscovered and unsigned singers in South Africa. That’s where we were up until last night on South African Idols, but the culling continued. 21-year-old musical theatre student, Tumi Lesenjane unfortunately left the IdolsSA competition last night when she failed to get enough votes to get her through to the top 9.

It’s a pity because I really digged her, like Randall did. She’s got the makings of an incredible artist, she has the look, a beautiful voice and she seems lovely too. I’m hoping to do a Google Hangout with Tumi later, so stay tuned to my Twitter feed for updates.

Watch: Daniel Baron ft. ProVerb

Former Idols star Daniel Baron just keeps soaring. The star has enjoyed a lot of success with his first release, having hit the number one spot on many charts across the country. He has plans to take his music to international audiences and I think with the material he is currently putting out, he’s definitely onto something good here. So last night, Daniel dropped his new music video called Not Here. It features Idols host, ProVerb and you can watch it above.

Don’t forget the new season of Idols hits your screens this Sunday (28 July) at 17:30 on M-Net and Mzansi Magic!

Proverb to co-produce Idols

One of the most likeable and most talented guys in the South African entertainment industry has to be Proverb. He’s a rapper, a presenter turned host, a DJ, a father, husband. Now he’s adding the title of co-producer to his already long list of successes.

It was announced yesterday that the Idols host would be co-producing this season of hit show. He’ll be working alongside Gavin Wratten, starting this weekend. Being in the industry for over 12 years now, this is a natural progression for the star. He knows what works on screen, so why not be involved in the development of several ideas behind the scenes too? I think this, he will be great. I have a lot of respect for Gavin Wratten as a director and now for these two to be teaming up; I think we’re in for a treat.

If you have what it takes to be the next South African Idols, then diarise these audition dates:

Jozi Auditions

Hennessy Artistry Halo Concert deets

A unique journey of music, culture and mixability is exactly what local music fans can experience with this year’s Hennessy Artistry. Hennessy Cognac is bringing together no less than six of South Africa’s most exciting musical talents in a finale Halo concert which epitomises the ‘Art of Blending’ to create a collaboration which has never been seen before.

This year’s collaborating artists; Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Flash Republic, Zonke, Crazy White Boy, Slikour and Zakes Bantwini will perform at the prestigious Halo concert to be held at The Venue in the exclusive Melrose Arch precinct in Johannesburg on the 17th of September. The 2011 Hennessy Artistry collaboration track has been produced by internationally acclaimed producers, The Layabouts , and will see an original version and a remixed track released.

Following a tour of six build-up events across South Africa, the finale Halo concert promises fans far more than just six performances. Together, the artists will perform the 2011 collaboration track, along with impromptu collaborations with other surprise South African musicians and MC’ed by the talented ProVerb.
