The latest on Big Brother Africa Season 9

Big Brother Africa fans, take note of the following developments:
M-Net and Endemol SA advise that due to a devastating fire at the Big Brother house on 2 September 2014, Big Brother Hotshots will not launch this Sunday (7 September) as scheduled. The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown and investigations will commence as soon as it is safe to do so. At this stage M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production, however as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements, an alternative is not immediately available. Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue.

Note, nobody was injured in the fire, which is a huge relief. Your favourite show air, it’s just going be slightly delayed. Stay strong folks, Biggie will return 😉

Clifton Shores is coming

The Hills might be over, but this show could be the next best thing. It’s MTV’s latest reality TV drama called Clifton Shores. It shows a bunch of young American women moving down to South Africa for what appears to be a once in a lifetime opportunity, to be party hosts. They’re working closely for their billionaire boss. It has all the makings of a great reality show, that isn’t scripted *coughs*. Beautiful women, bulky, toned guys, drama between friends all set on the magnificent backdrop that is Cape Town, the Mother City, South Africa. Clifton beaches are amazing but who knew they could hold so much drama too 🙂 The show is expected to start later this year on MTV. As soon as I have more details on the cast and the broadcast details, I’ll bring them to you.

Nonhle Goes To Hollywood, tonight on VUZU

One of my favourite people in the industry is the lovely Ms Nonhle Thema. I’ve been working in this biz for just about four years now and I had the privilege of interviewing her the day before she jetted off to the US for season 2 of O-Access. Been a fan ever since and I’m happy to call her not only a colleague, but a friend too.

So Nonhle has grown tremendously in those four years (she’s been in the game for ten though) and now she’s taking her name and her brand to an even bigger level. She’s tackling the most taxing, competitive and difficult market… Hollywood. Her new show aptly named Nonhle Goes To Hollywood premieres on VUZU tonight. The time? 19:30. The channel? 123 on DStv. Be sure to check it out! I went to the launch on Thursday last week and all of us there got to see a 7 minute sizzle reel as to what to expect in the next eight weeks. From interviewing for an assistant, to finding an apartment, meeting with agents to missing her family, you’ll see it all. Watch the highlights to find out more about her reasons for doing the show and what she’s aiming to achieve.

I had a great chat with Nonhle yesterday and she’s so excited, overwhelmed, inspired and also inspiring. She has the goods and what it takes to crack the LA scene. I feel the trend has started and many of us will be following in her footsteps. It’s definitely on the cards for me. Joziwood to Hollywood, via New York. Let’s see 🙂

Don’t forget, VUZU, channel 123 at 19:30!

Top Billing welcomes Simba to the family

Top Billing has a new family member. His name is Simba Mhere and he is the winner of the Top Billing presenter search for 2010. He beat out 5007 hopefuls to be crowned the winner of the competition in last night’s finale- and now he can say confidently say “Good evening and welcome to Top Billing”. Congratulations to Simba. I think he’ll do a fine job on one of SA’s most coveted television shows. I’m envious, I was one of the 5008 contestants who auditioned, but who knows what might happen come 2011 🙂 Well done Simba, wishing you well in this new, exciting and fantastic opportunity!

It’s Survivor season again

While we eagerly await the new season of South African Survivor next year, there’s an international season for us in the mean time. Starting on the 20th of December on SABC 3, the 17th installment of the Emmy winning show kicks off. This time the 18 hopefuls will be marooned in Gabon, battling not only each other but also all the elements too. Here are their profiles:

RANDY BAILEY
49
Eagle Rock, Mo.
Wedding Videographer

Randy Bailey wants to be personally responsible for crushing the hopes and dreams of all other contestants with delusions of winning SURVIVOR. He considers himself a ruthless bully who enjoys picking on those that were not blessed with his strength or intellect.
Randy describes himself as angry, blunt, mean and sarcastic (yet charming), and admits he’s a train wreck. Bailey declares he has no living relatives besides an older brother, from whom he hasn’t heard from in years. He says he has never met a person who didn’t eventually disappoint him. The only person he has ever loved was his recently deceased black Labrador mix, Johnson, with whom he lived for 13 years. His biggest pet peeves are cell phones and overly religious people, and he says he doesn’t allow either in his home or car. Bailey’s hobbies include scuba diving, marathon running and triathlons, including competing twice in the Hawaiian Ironman. Despite having competed in over 100 triathlons, he claims that he has not been off the couch in years. Instead, he now enjoys his nightly hot tub with a scotch on the rocks. He is also a private pilot, enjoys watching football and occasionally plays golf.
Bailey’s primary motivation for being on the show is to be hungry, tired, dirty and smelly. He also says he needs a long vacation where he will not be hassled with the mundane issues of his boring life. He’s a SURVIVOR purist and guarantees he will win if the game is not poisoned with too many twists.
Bailey is currently single and lives on a lake in rural southwest Missouri. Randy recently moved from Plano, Texas where he lived for 20 years and still claims to be a Texan at heart. He plans on returning there after he wins the million. He has an engineering degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, but chooses to work as a wedding videographer where he can set his own schedule.

JACQUE BERG
25
Santa Barbara, Calif.
Medical Sales
Jacque Berg always plays to win and will settle for nothing less than number one. She’s trained her whole life to play a game like SURVIVOR. Competing in several sports such as gymnastics, water polo, crew, track and swimming, she’s proven herself a leader. Berg thrives off pressure and has gone as far as competing against sales executives with 10 years experience to land her dream job as a medical device sales representative. Berg, one of the youngest people in her industry, is also a writer and charity organizer. Constantly on the go, Jacque admits she doesn’t like to sit still and is full of life. Her hobbies include running, swimming, surfing and boating. She describes herself as enthusiastic, adventurous, sweet and extremely positive. Her biggest pet peeve is people who talk about their big dreams but do nothing about it. She believes we all have control over our own destiny. Berg confesses that she performs her best when in extreme situations and can’t wait to overcome the physical and mental challenges SURVIVOR will offer. Berg grew up in Minnesota and is currently single and lives in Santa Barbara, California. She has a B.S. in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her birth date is September 10, 1982.

DANNY “GC” BROWN
26
Portland, Ore.
Maintenance Man

Ami Cusack was born and raised in Golden, Colorado, to Richard, a top gun pilot and explosives engineer, Danny Brown deems himself a true SURVIVOR, having overcome a difficult childhood including homelessness, and a mother who constantly moved both him and his brother to temporary housing. However, despite his hardships, Brown was resilient and optimistic. As a child, Brown learned to swim and fish in the Colorado River and developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He said he would quit his job to live outside if he could. His hobbies include producing music, fishing and traveling. He enjoys playing basketball and lifting weights whenever he gets the chance. He describes himself as adventurous, outgoing and silly, and he doesn’t like dishonest people. Brown currently works as a maintenance supervisor for the apartment complex where he lives and claims that making it through the week there is a challenge in itself. His job consists of cleaning, painting, plumbing, electrical repairs and customer service for the tenants. He believes that his determination, hard work and social skills can get him to the end. Brown lives in Portland, Oregon with his girlfriend, Shannan. He shares his home with his dog Chica, a cat named Scout and five snakes. His birth date is July 13, 1982.

Presenters named for reality show Rivals of Romance

M-Net Series has a brand new show coming to a TV near you early next year. It’s called Rivals in Romance. Sounds like it’s going to be a goodie. If I could enter, I probably wouldn’t. I might be single, but I don’t know about going onto a show like this to ‘find the one’. Anyway, there will no doubt be many entries flooding in. The channel announced earlier today that the show will be hosted by Phuti Nkomo and Jonaid Carrera.

Phuti is no stranger to the entertainment industry. She’s an ex Miss Teen SA winner (in 2000), played the role of Bali in M-Net’s soapie Egoli: Place of Gold for three years and she’s a regular voice on YFM’s weekend lineup. Phuti will be presenting alongside personal trainer, actor and presenter Jonaid Carerra. You might recognise him from his hosting duties on Superdance South Africa. On hosting the show with Phuti he says, “The show is all about love. Love should always be a beautiful experience. If you want to love in a fun way and haven’t entered yet, hurry up. This could be the chance – an experience of a lifetime!”

You can be apart of this competition by visiting the official site for more details at http://www.mnet.co.za/mnetseries.

Kim Kardashian ‘seduces’ Justin Bieber

Vodpod videos no longer available.

So a couple of weeks ago paparazzi pictures surfaced online of reality star Kim Kardashian and teen sensation Justin Bieber- and that all everyone talking. How do you spell Cougar? K.I.M ha. I just received the pics from the shoot and I absolutely LOVE how they turned out!The theme of the shoot was ‘The Graduate,’ for obvious reasons, LOL.Justin and I had such a fun time together at the shoot. What do you guys think of the pics?”Mrs Robinson has nothing on Ms Kardashian.
