[Audio] Shakira – Can’t Remember To Forget You ft Rihanna

Here it is ladies and gents… It’s the highly anticipated single by Shakira and Rihanna called Can’t Remember To Forget You:

I’m on a second listen and it’s definitely catchy. It is one of those pop singles that will definitely grow on one. Will it breaks records? Well let’s wait and see what the video is like before we place our bets 😉

Sidebar, I hope Rihanna goes back to her Barbados roots for her new album. I feel like something different and I dig material like Man Down, Pon de Replay etc. Patiently waiting.

Celebrate being South African and the World Cup’s legacy

Honestly, one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life happened exactly one year ago. In the video above you will myself and fellow Jozi residents in the streets of Sandton, South Africa as we await the Bafana Bafana team ahead of the FIFA World Cup. To be in that space was incredible and the tone was set right from that moment. Pessimists were kept at bay and we as South Africans opened up our doors, our hearts and we welcomed to the world to our country. In the video below you will see some of the highlights from the FIFA World Cup Celebration Concert, in which the likes of Shakira, Freshlyground, K’Naan, John Legend, Alicia Keys, BLK JKS and many many more performed on stage in Soweto.

So what do you remember and miss? I miss:

– The vuvuzela

Soccer City

Waka Waka-ing with Shakira and Freshlyground

Waving My Flag with K’Naan

– Phillip… I honourary name for Feel it… It Is here

– That little annoying Kenako kid LOL

– I miss mocking Diego Forlán for causing misery for not only us South Africans but for other nations he and his fellow Uruguayan players played in the world cup. Having said that, he was one of the best players admittedly.

– I miss Hup Holland Hup

– I miss wearing my Bafana Bafana and Ghanian jersey, an American flag, a Dutchscarf all during the period of the world cup.

– Seeing former President Nelson Mandela coming onto the field at the closing ceremony with his wife Graça Machel. For him to be there and give his blessing (so to speak) was just the most incredible moment to witness. I cried like a baby and I am not ashamed to admit that. It’s because of him that this was even possible I believe. It was also a difficult time for the Mandela family as they were mourning the loss of 13-year-old Zenani, who was killed in a car accident the night of the Kick-Off Celebration concert.

Most importantly I miss that sense of pride and happiness we all experienced during that time. For those 6 weeks we were one. We were proud of how far we have come as a nation, not only in terms of the infrastructure that was built for the world cup, but in terms of our history and how much we have achieved in the 16 years since we became a democracy. The newspapers, news channels on TV and radio led with feel-good stories and not the negative press we’ve come to expect. The FIFA World Cup gave us beautiful stadiums, the Gautrain and a one-way ticket to greatness! Now as we build up to the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, go forth and wear your rugby jerseys. Show your support for the team and remember how great we really are! I’m preaching but it’s true!

Idols Top 6 Song choices

Sindi Nene’s choices:
Jennifer Hudson- “One Night Only”
Beyoncé- “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”

JVB: I think she’ll do the JHud song really well. Her voice, her range is in line with this song. It will also give her an opportunity to belt it out. The Beyoncé song is going to be interesting. If she can pull off some slick choreography, while focusing on the actual singing, she could do well. I’m not so sure though.

Adeline Mocke’s choices:

Luther Vandross- “Dance With My Father”
Shakira- “Give It Up To Me”

JVB: She will be dedicating the Luther Vandross song and her performance to her dad. I think she’ll pull this one off well. Shakira? While she’s contemporary and one of the biggest names in the biz, I just don’t think this is the right song to go with. I’m interested to see how she does it (expecting a bit of sexy choreography and I reckon the stylists will work this into her look this week too).

Boki Ntsime’s choices:
Michael Bolten’s cover of the Percy Sledge classic, “When A Man Loves A Woman”
Justin Timberlake- “My Love”

JVB- Brilliant choices. He’s bound to make a few women around the country go weak at the knees with these two songs. He has quite a low range and yet both songs are quite high. Is Boki testing/pushing himself here? With the JT song there surely will be some dancing involved. I hope so; cause it’ll reveal more of his performance side and that is an important attribute for a musician going forward.

Elvis Blue’s choices:
Simon & Garfunkel- “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”
Kanye West- “Golddigger”

JVB: First song? Great choice. He’ll rock this one and like Boki he’ll make many weak at the knees. As for the second song? Well, I’m expecting him to change the arrangement a bit because I just don’t see Elvis rapping like Kanye. I’m all for him trying new things, but rapping isn’t one of them. Let’s see what he does with this one. There’s also a method behind his madness with this song choice. Watch this video to find out what it is.

Lloyd Cele choices:
Owl City- “Fireflies”
Usher- “OMG”

JVB: When the Fireflies song came out last year I like it, but the more the radio stations played it, the more I got over it. Quickly. Having said that, I like Lloyd. He’ll do it well, no doubt! Usher OMG is a good choice too, but will there be some dancing involved with this performance? Well we haven’t really seen him to something like this yet, so I’m curious!

Pieter West’s choices:

Bruce Springsteen- “Dancing In The Dark”
Joe Cocker- “You Can Leave Your Hat On”!

JVB: Randall has been, in a sense, begging Pieter let go; show more of his personality in his performances in recent weeks. This is the perfect opportunity for him. Two not so current songs, but Dancing In The Dark is a classic and he really can let go and rock out with this one. The Joe Cocker song suits his voice too, so let’s see how he gets on. If he stuffs this one up, he really must leave!

FIFA World Cup closing ceremony

Check out some of the amazing pictures from last night’s FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony here. I thought Shakira and Freshlyground did an amazing Waka Waka; I though the ‘Everywhere you go’ track by several top African artists was okay. I was a bit shocked that Kelly Rowland wasn’t there. I know she’s busy getting her new material out there, but seriously you can’t ask for a bigger platform then this. So I feel she lost out. As for the 3D technology? Well. That was simply magnificent. It kept the themes and cultures associated with Africa, but modernised it in such a way so as to prove to the rest of the world (and the haters) that this continent is special, splendid and world class.

Besides the fireworks at the end of the game, which saw Spain winning the World Cup for the first time, the highlight for me was seeing our former president, Nelson Mandela riding across the field. From his golf cart, the almost 92-year-old living legend waved and in a sense blessed this momentous occasion. I was at the official fan park in Sandton, Johannesburg and let me tell you as soon as the 35 000 + crowd saw him, everyone jumped to their feet to honour his presence; clapping and cheering loudly. I will shamelessly admit that I was so moved when I saw him that I had many a tear in my eyes! His blessing, his presence. Wow. Such an wonderful, good and wise spirit.

Well done to South Africa and its citizens for hosting this event in true style. To Danny Jordaan and the rest of the Local Organising Committee; to Sepp Blatter and his FIFA team; to the media and to all our foreign guests: Well done and congratulations. This is a once in a lifetime event that I will hold close to my heart for a very long time. Blessed, humbled and thankful to be able to say, I was there!
